    FPS drops return..

    Hey.

I had a topic before, it was my constant FPS drops. Someone tried helping me, and it helped for a solid while.

Though now they returned. I play with Direct X 9 now and play with the lowest graphic I can. My FPS drop at some point after being stable at 60 for a while.

When I tab out of the game and tab in again, they return to solid 60 again for a while, until they drop once again. But tabbing out wont always be possible, like during mid game.. I have no idea what to do anymore.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I'm sorry to hear that your issue has returned. If I recall, what fixed it last time was downgrading your graphics card drivers and using DirectX 9 mode, correct?

It worked for a little while, so something was working right. Do you recall anything changing (like a setting or program you turned on when you had disabled it previously) or updating on your PC that coincides with this?

Does alt-tabbing fix the issue every time (temporarily, of course)? Do you notice a pattern to it, does it happen in specific areas or while only doing specific actions?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Thank you a lot for the fast answer!

Correct! Thats what worked for a solid while with no issues.

I indeed did download something, another game and Steam to be exact. The game seems to give me some issues. I can be a reason of that. Though its weird that the same FPS issue would return due to it. I will check it out at some point.

Funny enough, alt-tabbing does actually fix it all the time. Each time I do it, no matter where, it works. I know that my FPS get a little lower whenever it rains or snows, but when I get out of those areas normally they fix themselves. But after a while it came to a point where my FPS would stay below 35 until I tab out of the game and so on.

Thank you for the update AmyRose112.

When you said "The game seems to give me some issues", was this in reference to the other game you downloaded? If so, what issues is it giving you? Do you have Steam's Overlay or Big Picture mode open?

Are you playing the game in fullscreen mode or windowed/borderless fullscreen?

I meant the other one. SInce I have it it started to give me a heavy GPU drop after 2 hours of playing. Not even closing the game seemes to cool down things then and I gotta retsart completely. The focus I suppose it is, was my Graphics card. It's already 3 years old, so it is just about time it shows me some aging. Since it went well perfectly for those 3 years.

I usually play on fullscreen since I noticed a more frequent FPS drop with borderless.

    Update!

I might have found the reason of my FPS trouble. Since it came without much reason, and even stayed after new installing my entire windows. I was not sure if it was problems with any of the programs I had on my computer. Only a few months ago, though, I bought a cheap Gamepad to play with on Final Fantasy. It was a no brand cheap one. Since then, after while of using it, my FPS problems came across. I googled about the FPS issues in TERA, and found that people had that problem when using older or non brand Gamepads. So I unplugged mine and started the game new, until now there is no issue.

I have not tried Final Fantasy yet. I will try it with my old PS3 controller, since that usually worked fine before I bought my own off brand one. Since I'd really not wish to play without controller again. But it might be that the off brand one ate my memory during my games. That would be a reason I even could believe, yet I am not too sure yet. I will see when I manage to get my PS3 controller to work on my PC again and play Final Fantasy.

    Update once more:

So the TERA FPS drops were fixed with unplugging my gamepad. But after I played with my PS3 gamepad again in Final Fantasy, like I did a few months before, the FPS struggle sadly remains.

Thank you for the update AmyRose112.

I'm sure what we have tried before so I apologize if I have asked this before on your other thread, but do you have a way to monitor if your GPU is overheating?

Do you play any other games on this PC besides those two? Have you encountered any issues at all (not just frame rate drops) with any of them?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Thanks for the update, and it's all good.

There was no issue with the game nor with what was on my computer. It, in fact, was definitely my GPU giving up. It overheated while I was playing TERA two days ago. Left it being halfway broken, thus I went to get a new one, and now everything is more than just fluent. Not one single FPS problem anywhere.

So I am sorry that I've wasted your time like that! But I appreciate the help you wished to provide and thank you for it a lot!

    Have a nice day
