The mail system reminds me of just how backwater FFXIV is sometimes. >=(
I feel like Square-Enix would somehow screw up the tip system, or make it worse. After the duty recorder, Eureka, the glamour toilet, and the companion app--I've lost a lot of trust in Square-Enix's ability to impliment useful features without making them worse. It's why I joke that they'll add viera and new races, but then only a single gender. They'll botch it somewhow!
I'd like a tip system, but it'd have to not bog down the player performing, nor have an excessive amount of gil, or else RMT could take advantage of it. Or you could dump say 50mil on a random player and then report them for buying gil, lol...
I think being able to instantly drop tips to people would be awesome! Here on Balmung we have alot of performances and shows and it would be great if we could, as an audience, make it rain without interrupting the performer. They can just side eye their gil and watch it increase for a job well done.
These events are big, no one wants to waste time with trade windows for 50+ tips coming in and frankly it's sort of considered rude to initiate trade in the middle of a busy gathering where the chat log is almost too busy to keep up with as it is.
Yeah I can see how that would be a problem we would just have to put a limit on it, say 5-10k would probably be goodThe mail system reminds me of just how backwater FFXIV is sometimes. >=(

What issue could you have with receiving gil, I get items, but why wouldn't you want more gil
Off the top of my head here, but I suppose that I would not like if some stranger gave me a bit of gil suddenly, possibly messaged me to let me know that they did so and then proceeded to just stand there awaiting acknowledgement or conversation since - while it might be well-intended - it would make me feel shy and a bit uncomfortable since I am not great with making small talk with complete strangers and I always feel guilty trotting away too soon in case it comes across as rude. That'd be worse had they just given me money.
Put simply, I wouldn't want to be involuntarily indebted to someone. If they walked up to me and opened a trade window with me for any amount of gil, I would refuse - a forced tip isn't very different.
Having said that, we DO have a lot of Performers on Balmung like that other poster mentioned, and I'd love to give them tips as it makes the world feel all the more lively and I really appreciate having that atmosphere.
I think a better system is to bring back the request Melding/Repair from 1.0. Kinda works as a "Tip" You get Gil as reward for helping them. Works if that player is AFK aswell. Gil gets varied on how many repairs are needed or how many materias.
I often refuse to accept when someone offers me gil for something I did for them. I have more gil than I'll probably ever need unless they make some major changes to the game. You keep it.
well if it's not for you there could always be a refuse tips option

And just realized that this would create plausible deniability for gil buyers. Not that I think SE does anything about them, but, you know. Still.
