Simple idea, had it since PotD tbh, but can we get a "shop" in Deep Dungeons? Either on a set number of floors, or just randomly (like the yuge floor in HoH). This shop could sell all sorts, pomanders, pot sherds, Accursed Hoard style items. I'd say give it a limited, random stock, similar to random shops found in various roguelike games. Another idea I had for what could be purchased from such a shop, born purely out of frustration with pomander luck, is player upgrades. Something like being able to carry more pomanders, or looking at the Duty Action system and how it's being applied in Eureka, something like that could also work.
As for how we'd purchase from the shop, I had a few ideas;
- Weapon/Armor levels could function as the currency, sort of like they do for getting the weapons outside the Deep Dungeons, although I'm not too keen on that idea since higher floors you'll not want a trade like that...
- You could also trade your actual levels, this would give some value to killing enemies for EXP after you've hit the cap, since the vendor would delevel you. Again, not too keen on that, don't think it'd be worthwhile dropping levels on higher floors...
- A Merit type system could work though, same idea as the previous one, EXP from mobs would gain some value once you've hit the cap. Basically, once you've hit the cap in Deep Dungeon, EXP starts working towards Merit Points instead, and those points are what you trade at such a shop.
IDK, I think such a shop would add a nice break from the monotony of slaughtering mobs every floor, and if there are player upgrades you can get there? Well, then it makes each run even more unique. One run you could have a particularly useful Duty Action, another you could be carrying 5 Pomanders of Petrification. Upgrades like that would make Deep Dungeons a whole lot more interesting IMO.
Another idea for a random floor that could be fun;
A Puzzle floor. Simple enough idea, a floor where you have to solve a puzzle to move on, rather than killing enemies. That could be as simple as those quests where we're given a picture and have to find that location (floors might require a bit more visual variety for that to work), or simple logic puzzles, maybe something like the Qarn normal mode puzzle (find key items, put them in correct order). Heck throw another Construct 7 style maths pop quiz our way. If the puzzle has a fail state (get the wrong answer, for example), then the punishment could simply be enemies spawning and the floor essentially turning into a regular one. The puzzles could just be a "fun" way to speed up floor progression.
