Are healers supposed to be this weak ?

    Hello,
I recently started this game, i'm now level 61 with my scholar and its also the only job I use for the moment, i'm really enjoying the story and all but, ever since level 50 everything became so difficult and painful to kill
I'm just at the beginning of the stormblood story line and monsters seems undefeatable

I understand that this is a healing class but does it really have to take me two minutes to kill one regular mob of my level ? Or I am doing something wrong ?

leveling is weird. it'll get better when you get Broil II at Lv 64. i switched to SMN a lot when doing solo stuff.

and healers XP best doing dungeons because of fast queues.

Yep. They are based on the class Arcanist, so leveling one does the other. You just need to gear up ad do the quests for abilities.

You technically don't have a lvl 61 sch. You have a lvl 61 arcanist, and when you equip a sch job stone you become a lvl 61 sch. This is because arcanist is the base class for sch.

Because sch and smn both have the same base class, which is arcanist, having a lvl 61 sch means you also have a lvl 61 smn (provided you have the smn job stone available to equip).

So the advantage of sch over other healers is they automatically lvl up smn at the same time. Presently arcanist is the only basic class that can use more than one job stone.

Yes, they share the same base class - arcanist.

You're not leveling up your job, but rather your class, that turns into your job, once you equip the jobcrystal.

Arcanist is in the unique position to have two jobs it can turn to: Scholar and Summoner. Its your arcanist thats level 61 and depending on which jobcrystal you equip, it turns into a scholar (healer) or a summoner (dps).

You don't actually even have a choice, it's already leveled. you just need to buy a SMN book, some casting gear and do the job quests.

+1 for mentioning a weapon.. At lower levels there is shared Int/Mind gear but beyond level 50 I think it's all role specific so you would need Intelligence gear for SMN and Mind gear for your SCH.

If you're doing dungeons it will be faster to run as healer, but for solo quests and the like it's not a bad option to be able to switch to SMN. In general, though, yes healers are weaker in power due to having better survivability. In respect to healers, SCH is arguably the best damage dealing healer so at least you got that going. However, like others mentioned, if you're having some problems it's most likely gear related.

One thing I'm not sure on, and if you already have SMN unlocked it's a moot point.. But do you still need to level up other classes to unlock the old jobs? I believe you used to have Thaumaturge at 15 and Arcanist at 30 to unlock SMN. Don't know if they ever dropped those requirements or not, I've had all my stuff at 50 since ARR so it's been a while since I thought about that

They dropped it. The only thing they currently have as a requirement is (obviously) base class-> job (for those with base classes).

I know some people prefer to take their healers through everything but as a healer main I've found that most of my MSQ stuff (minus dungeons and the requisite "keep yourself alive" duties) has gone a lot better with an on-level dps class to take instead. So definitely look into SMN - plus it has the benefit of sharing many of the core skills, so you should already be familiar with using your dots, etc.

This could be due to the ilvl of the gear you're wearing. If you're not using your chocobo in combat that's even less dps. Also as a sch you have the advantage to switch to smn for much better dps while soloing so you can use this to your advantage.

I believe the msq gives you ilvl 240 gear (?) before you head into SB. It's okay but not great for entering SB. Even as a dps it would take long to kill things with that gear in SB content. You can get ilvl 260 gear with poetics tomestones in Idyllshire.
