Main story and jobs

Hello, Im new to game and bit confused. Lets say one start with Archer, but in some point, around lvl 20-30 realize nonono, its just not me and wanna try something else and start to lvl Maradeur. Do you need to redo main story or you just pick it up once you at lvl, or you have to do main story with class you choose at beginning? Otherwise, game is great, love it and idea that you actually need only 1 character and can lvl all classes/jobs is great.

You don’t need to redo the main story, just unlock the class you’d like to switch to, equip the weapon, and level it enough to pick up your next main story quest. Each class has their own completely separate class storyline every 5 or so levels that you’ll want to do as well.

Yep, and here's what I did when picking up new stuff: go and acquire what you want to play. It'll give you a Hunt Log (do the first five or six or so) and a starting quest. This should give you enough to get to level 5 in five minutes or thereabouts (assuming you have the Road to 60 buff from being on Zodiark). Then hand in the starting quest, pick up the next (Lvl 5), and continue, plus keep doing the Hunt Log. This, perhaps with a FATE or two, will get you to lvl 10. Hand in the lvl 5 class quest and pick the lvl 10. Do it, and the new hunt log, plus any FATEs and also do Levequests to top it off. This will then have you at lvl 15, whereupon I'd advise hitting the Hall of the Novice for your tank gear, plus do your lvl 15 quest. When you've done those, hit the dungeons. Do class quests when they pop up, keep on top of your gear, and you'll be back in the MSQ in no time.

If you haven't actually unlocked the ability to switch classes yet, you'll need to complete your Level 10 archer quest and then the guildmaster will say you can apply to other guilds as well.

And you don't need to keep using your original class at all if you don't like it.

Yeah, Archer was 28, I rolled Lancher. Prolly get into tanking, since its my fav role in mmo, but really prefere to see dungeons with DD perspective first. I really really like that system, 1 char can lvl all roles, and no need to respec and regear, just set all up and enjoi, love it. Thanks for replies

Well, re-gearing is still a thing unless you are leveling a different class that shares that type of gear. Fortunately, low level gear has a spread of stats so caster gear is effectively for all casters and melee gear is for all melee, though tanks do get some actual armor-heavy gear after a little bit of their own as well.

At higher levels, gear is a bit more exclusive, so until you get past 50 you won't have to worry too much about it.

By regearing, I meant, for, example, in SWTOR, I mained class called shadow, it is melee DD, but also can be tank, I knew both roles well, and sometimes, I swaped roles. I had onother set of gear in my inventory and you need to swap it out one by one. Also, you need respec and redo quickbars, it was pain, butI wanted to do it becouse higher gearrate than alt etc. I this game, nothing like thst, set them up and one button and gear, quickbars etc, all done. Its really really cool thing

A minor heads up for when you unlock your jobs: the classes and jobs have separate bars. As soon as you equip your job stone, you will switch over to the job's bars. At this point, you can save yourself a lot of time redoing your bars by doing two things:

1) Save your gearset so you don't switch back later and wonder why you're not JOB.
2) Copy your hotbars from the class to the job:
/hotbar copy lnc 1 drg 1
(do for all relevant hotbar numbers)
(if on controller, /chotbar)
