How do you set up your healer skill bars?

I was just interested in how everyone else sets up their hotbars.

I personally set it up so I have skills grouped by rows and columns. For example(WHM), I normally put my main attack skills in the first column. From bottom to top, stone(binded to 1), holy, assize.

    Assize|Swiftcast|Raise|Asylum| |Plenary| Eye 4 Eye|. |Largess|Thin Air|. |Sleep|
    Holy. |Benedict|Cure3|Aero 2|Medica2|. |D. Benison|. |Lucid|. Surecast|. |Rescue
    Stone |. cure |Cure 2|Aero. | Medica. | Esuna| Regen. |. | |P of Mind| |F.Aura|

Then I have another small hotbar for target markers like 1,2,3,a,b,c,etc
Then another small one with return, teleport, mount, some emotes, sprint, Protect, Limit Break

Hum de dum, let's get going.

Most of my XIV setup is based on 1-10, Ctrl 1-10, and Alt 1-10. As I got more skills that needed to be used often that weren't in easy reach (1-7 for me) I started...mixing and matching. I've ended up with this.

Most of my heals are native keystrokes.
Most of my damage on healers are Alt+ modifiers
    Most CDs are Ctrl+ Modifiers.

    1-12:
    No modifier: Cure 2 | Cure | Benediction | Tetra | Medica | Esuna | Medica 2 |Regen | PoM | Mount | Raise w/ text | Sprint
Alt Modifier: Stone | Rescue | Aero | Fluid Aura | Holy | Break (lol) | Aero again | Stone again | Aero 3
Ctrl Modifier: Cleric Stance | Largesse | Swiftcast | Thin Air | Divine Benison | Luic | Repose | Protect | PI | Tetra again | Raise w/o text

Some of those may seem odd like Regen being an 8 or Rescue being in the DPS areas. A lot of them were fit in to new places when things like Stone I and II became separate and we no longer needed two buttons based on if we were synced or not. Aero being in two spots is another holdover from Aero 1 and Aero 2, things like that.

For those that look hard to hit like Regen (8) or Aero 3 (Alt...9 technically) I did other keybinds. Those are:
    Mouse 4 - Regen
    Mouse 1 - PI
Mouse 3 - Stone spam (my thumb got tired of holding down Alt so much)
    Mouse 6 - sprint
    Mouse 10 - Surecast
    Mouse 12 - Raise w/ text macro
    PoM - V
    Cure 3 - X
    Asylum - Alt X
    Assize - Alt T
Aero 3 - Ctrl G (Tetra used to just be G, now it's both 4 and G and I still hit both of them sometimes to tetra)

For my other healers I try to keep things in similar location. Bane, Holy, Gravity - all "alt 5". Cure 2, Adlo, Asp Benefic, all "1"

My other hotbars, since you're curious - some are set up for CD/proc tracking around my party list. One is reserved for mid battle consumables mostly and has e4e and surecast on it. Another is used for stat potions or on other jobs where I need to fit SOMETHING else in. One more for pets, sound menu, misc things like that. The last two I use are for jobs, chocobo commands, teleports, a few healing potions, etc. In fact it's probably better if I just post my UI at this point.

The bottom right 4 bars and the CD bars near the party list are custom job-specific. The bottom middle, top left, and two on the right are all constant.

Well, I use a PS2 joystick to play. Therefore, I use the x-hotbar.

At WHM, my main bar is more or less like this:

I use a controller, so crossbars are how I go about. It's also probably easier for me to describe how I set them up rather than lay them out in text format. The Cross bar set up basically utilizes three out of a total of eight for quick access. You have a simple L2 or R2 tap then a directional key or button command for one set; another set is accessed by going L2->R2 or R2->L2; and the last is double tap L2 or R2. I mention this because the frequency in which an ability is used will determine which set it is put on.

How I set them up, and how I would set them up on PC is comparable to a keyboard in the sense that the keys are not laid out alphabetically, but strategically in order to facilitate user input. So as an example, my ogcd heals are spread out amongst several crossbars instead of grouped together on a single one. When I set up my crossbars, I literally run around the open world or PoTD fighting mob after mob to 'feel' where I want the abilities to be placed. It's a whole lot of, "I don't like this here; it would be better here" kind of trial and error.

Because WHM and AST are so similar, their overall crossbar set up is nearly identical. When playing either of these jobs, I know that L2->R2->right on the directional pad is my main ogcd heal (tetra/essential dignity), or L2->right directional pad is Regen/Aspected bene. SCH is whole different animal though. There are some similarities such as where I put my limit break, healer bubble, and current role skills, but for the most part, SCH plays so differently than the other two healers that the comparison to my WHM/AST crossbars is night and day.

Main bar for commonly used heals, shift for commonly used CDs, alt for less commonly used CDs, ctrl for DPS.

There are some exceptions, like protect is on the far end of my alt hotbar since I don't really use that in combat.

I have a set button-pattern for all games like this, be it WoW, FFXIV or countless other MMORPGS.

Numeric Keys, with or without modifiers depending on button-amount (typically for emergency or burst buttons).
QWERTY with and without SHIFT and/or CTRL modifiers (typically for sub-abilities).
ASDFGH with and without SHIFT and/or CTRL modifiers (typically for main-abilities).

It is worth mentioning that should any button (such as SHIFT + W) require pressing whilst moving, games such as WoW/FFXIV etc allow you to run by holding LMB+RMB together, hence there is no detriment to either movement or abilities when bound this way. I very rarely move with WASD other than to strafe, hence I bind SHIFT/CTRL + S/W but not A/D.

Here's some screenshots of my WHM, WAR and BRD buttons for example.

As you can see, it's not dissimilar to how I have my bars setup in WoW:

3 rows of hotbars. Role skills are on the right.
Hotbar 1, heals and any skills that often used.
    Hotbar 2, damage/dots/ast cards things/less common utilities.
Hotbar 3, aoe things and power heal.

I rearrange hotbar 1 in between 2 and 3 for easier lookout on procs and CDs.

    AST

    WHM

Ignore the auto attack button lol.

This is my current hotbar setup for all of my healers.

    SCH, then AST, then WHM.

I use 1-6,Q-Y, A-H, and Z-N for my left half. Alt + those keys covers the right half. I have the pet hotbar bound to Shift + 1-6 and Shift + Q-Y but I added the cooldowns onto the right side of the regular hotbars for convenience.

I refuse to use WASD movement when the mouse can handle that for you just as well when set up properly. To facilitate that, I have legacy-type set in my movement settings in character configuration, which makes me always move in the direction the camera is pointing. I have a reverse button bound to my mouse as well, but the only thing I use it for is positionals if I'm playing a melee class.

Alt 1-6 are buttons I try to use on all classes. The macro on Alt-5 for AST is just a pull macro. The Alt-6 macro just removes some of the UI that gets in the way during raids.

You can tell how little I play WHM because it still has a protect macro.

Everything fits on 4 bars on every class as long as you don't overdo it on the macros. Doing so is usually a sign you messed up. I still have slots available for food/pots but I don't use any of these classes as mains in raid at the moment regardless so I'm not worried about them.

I don't particularly care for separate hotbars exclusively for cooldown tracking either. especially when arranging your skills in a sensible manner facilitates that already. My keybinds also help a ton with this admittedly. which frees me up to use 4 hotbars for all the miscellaneous stuff I use on a daily basis in game.

Mechanics are Aesthetics. Graphics don't make interesting gameplay.

Heals on the left, DPS on the right, AOE relatively together.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
