In general, gaming laptops aren't meant to be used for 8hrs per day unlike business laptops, so aiming too high means it won't be portable, and aiming too low means that you're not going to be raiding on it, as the cooling won't be able to keep up and it will thermal-throttle. Business laptops with equivalent hardware to a 1050Ti are the Quadro P3000. Hence the baseline is the 1050 Ti. Older laptops would have to have a GeForce GTX 980M or Quadro M5000M to be within the same range.

For reference the latest 2019 business software demands at least a Quadro P1000 (Quadro M4000M and GeForce GTX 1050 are also equivalent.) So anything less, is not going to last more than 2 years.
