PS4 update time has become ridiculous

so, downloaded patch 4.1 in about a minute, it's not particularly huge.


Then it starts "copying..." .... slow as crap, 20 minutes and counting.


This new updating method is far, far slower than the old one.

PS4 likes to optimize game files when it updates a game probably what is going on.

Yea at this point when 5.0 drops, PS4 players will need to be able to start their download days prior.

Just kidding, that sucks. PS4 downloads have always been notoriously slow for any download for me. I hope it gets resolved!

We have, both times. The expansion drops a day or two early while the servers stay in maintenance mode, no different to PC patches right now.

Also don't forget how PS4 users got 4.4 almost immediately after servers went down. Talk about scare mongering.

We got 4.4 in advance because we had to redownload the whole game when they switched to the PS4 patch system. I assume they will do the same with 4.5 and the next xpac.

But yes, the PS4 patcher is really bad at patching large games and this is what I feared what would happen. Tip: put your PS4 into rest mode and let it handle the patch there, don't try to play other games while patching.

You have missed the entire point....the new download process on PS4 is horrendous, with the new expansion it could take days. This is evident from the small patches taking almost an hour to download. now pack a whole expansion that could easily be 8hours of download time but then afterwards PS4 players will have to wait for the patch to copy itself and that takes almost quadruple the time of the original download...if you arnt going to offer productive comments just don't comment.....

This update method is far better then updating via the horrid outdated launcher/updater.
When i switched from PS3 to PS4 i managed fine but one of the updates .. long story short i had to re-install the game with all the patches and kept getting patch download errors and missed out on a month of sub time.
I have yet to have issues with the changes but i leave my PS4 on rest mode. It has never taken several hrs...
I can admit however that downloading on PS4 is slower then my laptop, the PS4 gets it's speed throttled down perhaps because of some of the hardware that was used, not sure
