Honestly, I think I've been in your place before (but not as serious). It might not be the same, but I play games a lot as a distraction, to cope, and to vent. My problems are difficult and I dont always want to deal with them right away.

To truely quit a game, I think you should try and find something in real life to distract you from gaming at all. Something fun and engaging that you want to do in your spare time instead of gaming. What I'm trying to say is, find a good hobby irl, maybe one that doesn't require a lot of time and money, or none at all.

Also, this is easier said than done but try and let go of whatever goals you still have in the game (if any). Let the game take less priority more and more over time. Then, I guess try and enjoy life more if you can, or deal with whatever problems you're facing. This is just an alternative method if you dont want to delete your account for whatever reason. That's all I can say and good luck!

I just started, with the free one first. Then I bought the complete and subscribed.

I don't know how you quit this, but it might eventually make me quit Wow. I'm still playing Wow, after 14 years. The problem is that both have different problems, as well as things about them which are great. Also, both have downtime (during the patch tonight, I caught up with stuff in Wow, heh.)

I like the simplicity of gearing up in Wow, even if you don't really group much/at all. There are already some things giving 340 epic loot, which you just enter as a scenario with other players. Later, they'll probably have a "relinquished" type mainly solo gearing up again, for epics.

FFXIV is very complex, as far as gear, though you level up VERY FAST (compared to Wow.) I've not been playing long and this character is 50 dragoon/52 fisher. I've already made my first materia meld mistakes, on the fisher job! There is a dude who removes them, I found out, but he destroys both (that plus 4 to gather was expensive, so maybe later.)

But I don't HAVE to play either one; Like Wow, this is something I do when there is a lack of other good games. Even having an Xbox One doesn't fix it, when they seem to have a lot of junk until they have something like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76 (around the same time, actually...) I know, from my experience in Fallout 4/Red Dead Redemption(on the Xbox One), that I'll be in those a LOT instead of FFXIV/WOW.

So I would suggest find other things to do, or other games to play. Sometimes there is just a fix from MMORPGS that I don't get from solo games, rather than the grouping/raiding it ends up being for the Market Board/Auction House element for me; That is the part of "playing with others" which I enjoy the most.

You either go cold turkey to quit or you take a break.

If you have an addiction problem, seek help.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

Drop kick your system. (Make sure to transfer the data on it to another system first.)

Clearly you have an addictive personality. Without replacing the addiction. There is little you can do.
    Set limits ie
Get someone you know to log into you router set a password you don't know and lock you down to 2 hours a day.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!

As others have said, it sounds like you have an underlying problem. Therapy helps if you do the things your therapist suggests.

The bottom line to remember is that video games like FFXIV are not forever (though since FFXI has not shut down at this point and has been going strong for 16 years, who knows?). Point being--in the grand scheme of things, it's not worth losing the rest of your life and livelihood over something that is temporal, even if you do enjoy it.

As the saying goes, "Moderation is best in all things."

    Buy one of these:

A physical security token, and connect it with your account. Cancel your sub and give the token to your friend.

This way you are locked out of your account, without deleting it.
