Find another addiction.
Some good advice here. If your therapy primarily addressed your playing, it might be worth looking into further help concerning why you feel the need to play so much. Addictions are rarely just that; usually something is driving them, and it's possible the game is acting as a form of escapism for underlying problems.
More immediately, I wouldn't really recommend going cold turkey. If you're spending an inordinate time playing each day, it's going to leave you with a large block of free time you're not used to that can feel daunting to deal with. Try and give yourself a limit to how much time you spend on it each day and stick to it, and as Aeilyi said, try to find something else to put your energy into - find a new (non-MMO) game, read books, have movie marathons, pick up a hobby, join some online communities - the last one is particularly important if the majority of your social life comes from FFXIV, since the sudden feeling of isolation can make the separation even more difficult. But outside support is vital when you're trying to kick a habit like this.
Personally, I'd consider trying a new game if you're struggling at the outset; it tricks your brain into thinking it's getting its "fix", and without the time-suck and achievement-chasing of MMOs they're far easier to disengage from. If you choose to cut down gradually, don't join open-ended activities like PF farms or Pagos - give yourself objectives like finishing roulette or capping tomes, then log. It's not easy, and it does require some determination, but it can be done.
Hey guys, I managed to check all the posts today. I appreciate all the concerns and the advise including positive/negative comments. I really needed some advise from this community as there is no one that I can talk to who play MMO around me... Believe or not it helped me to make the important decision about what I really should do. I already unsubscribed and I will likely delete my account + characters in the process. It is going to be quite sad but I guess I have no choice. Next few days, I am planning to re-visiting every place from New Gridania, where I 1st created my character, to the latest dungeons. I will probably be drowning in nostalgia. Thanks guys...
Tbh, i wouldn't ask here in the first place. What drove me away from this game was people. I am unsubbed atm as well and it is not because of the game, it is because of the drama, the need of others feeling telling me how i should play or how i should treat other people etc. Everyone thinks they are the best, and i am not saying i am a saint or right about this, i am just saying half of the comments here are either being sarcastic, jokes or just rude.Hey guys, I managed to check all the posts today. I don't think people realize gaming can be an addiction and it is not something to be joked around if someone asks for help. But well, like i said there are a lot of non-adult community in the game so i wouldn't act on the comments that are here solely. Look into yourself and ask yourself what you want.
I hope you the best, i had deleted my 1st character too but i returned eventually because i had missed the game but i take breaks now time to time. I hope you can achieve what you envision about gaming. Good luck
..and sorry for the bad English![]()
I think the OP is referring to real life problems which are making it impossible for him to both continue to play and have a stable life, if so I hope things improve for him or her
the problem is deeper than this game or mmo. keep getting therapy and the best thing to do would be sell/get rid of all your entertainment stuff, pc/xbox/ps4/tv etc. cancel your internet and focus on living a simple life where you find contentment and surround yourself with family and friends irl.
You have deeper seeded issues than this you need to bring to the surface. Seek out a therapist for advice and not a video game forumHello, fellow players I am afraid I have a very stupid question for you and yes I am dead serious... I have zillion reasons to quit this game which I wouldn't bore you guys with here but my question is very simple. How can I quit this game and leave for good?
I tried to quit and cancelled the subscription multiple times but I see myself playing this after few months later. Rinse and repeat. I even tried to cancel my credit card and it didn't work either. I even had a therapy. I may lose everything I have now if I continue playing this game or any MMO that matter.
A friend of mine said deleting character/account would definitely help but I would like to avoid this unless it is the only option?
