    Shields

Just curious if anyone has tried out that shield from Grid? The buckler with +15 evade and 168 block rate (71 block)?

I currently use a canopus shield and have a unslotted vintage kite shield waiting for that magical day when I can actually manage to get a +Def materia.

Was wondering if it was worth it for me to spend my seals on?

If you're looking for def materia you can significantly raise your chances of getting it by wearing as much mythril equipment as you can, fighting nothing but aldgoats and dodos while you spiritbond it, and then going to the market wards and purchasing some +defense materia with your gil.

I'd say if you are planning on using a slotted Vintage Kite Shield in the near future the answer is no, it's not worth your seals.

Its the really high block rate that interests me mostly. It's 71? 72? (the +15 evasion is nice too!) higher than the kite shield, and even if I was to indeed slot that with +def materia, was curious as to whether anyone has any experience to share with it. I cant really seem to find much information on it.

The issue I see with the higher block rate is we have no idea how much more you block with it. I have seen no info if an extra 70 block rate would significantly increase you chance to block vs Ifrit or some other NM. I would say, get it and see if it does make you able to pull off more phalanx and war drums. At worst, it is an ok shield for you THM/CNJ.

imo scutums are best. for endgame. you want a shield that will give you a good return on aegis boon. scutum does it the best.

That is valid point, I had not thought of that. But would more blocking be more useful than a bigger heal from Aegis Boon?

in endgame your blocks are limited to your aegis boon pretty much. random blocks just dont really happen. for Sh id use the other shield though.

I have the grid shield and i use it a lot when i'm tanking mobs or tanking for example the LL stronghold nm. The high block rate make you block like crazy and helps a lot. On ifrit you almost don't block anything (the only way to block is with aegis) so you can go with w/e you want. On moggle i didn't do much gla but i think a more balanced one is better.
