So I know everyone is excited about the new job system that's coming into effect soon. Which I guess writing this might be a little late with the next patch coming out in a few days. Sorry for the delay... ^^;
Gladiator = Paladin
Marauder = Warrior
Pugilist = Monk
Lancer = Dragoon
Archer = Bard
Conjurer = White Mage
Thaumaturge = Black Mage
These classes all sound great. I mean, who wouldn't want to be WHM again with a useless Banish spell. (WHM/NIN ftw!) Now, aside for maybe the last four classes, I can understand why each class was given the corresponding jobs. I can hypothesis that GLA was giving PLD because they share the same weapon base type, in which case that would be the same for all the other classes. Marauder being a Warrior because of a Great Axe, Lancer becoming Dragoon because of the polearm.
However, with FFXI in mind. I don't understand the meaning behind it. In FFXI, Paladins were based on "Warriors" that undergo extensive spiritual training or so the story goes and developed magical abilities (white magic). As for the Marauder being a Warrior is confusing because in Final Fantasy series your typical Warrior would be what the Gladiator class in FFXIV now. Instead, we have the high HP that Monks normally would have has been given to MRD. Also, LNC is becoming this DRK/SAM hybrid with an element affinity to fire. Not that I don't agree with this, but I do remember someone saying that each classes have their own lore. So, hopefully SE is able to tie the two together.
Personally, I would have suggested that Gladiator be given the job title Warrior and Marauder be called Berserker and... Maybe let Pugilist be the Geomancer that everyone is so curious/peak to see it join the MMORPG realm.
Suggestion for class/job name reform...
Gladiator = Warrior
Marauder = Berserker/???
Pugilist = Geomancer
Archer = Bard
(This class to me is more like a backwards off shoot. In the Ragnarok Online games the Bard uses his guitar to shoot arrows at monsters. Also, given their role it isn't too farfetched for being given support abilities. The NPC Thancred who claims to be a Bard though I think would be closer to the FFT's Orator class with the support ability "Equip Sword/Dagger".)
Lancer = Dragoon (Lancer as a Templar might be nice for the Ishgard storyline)
Conjurer = Sage?
Thaumaturge = Warlock?
So that's my take on the classes for FFXIV!Thoughts?
Please give feedback. ^^
