Does it ever ruin your immersion that you're sitting at a desk staring at a little screen? I mean come on dude what are you really trying to get here? FFXIV has a separate config program, use it before you load the game. And I apologize if calling it a game ruined your immersion.

I thought PC gaming was all about config settings? Quite often messing with configs is more fun than the game itself no? Take skyrim for a recent example...

Some games even allow you to change settings while the game is running! Isn't that like totally unbelievable? ò.Ó
Sadly ffxiv currently only has two possible configurations: unplayable and omg-it's-gonna-burn-my-gpu
Would be nice if 2.0 had settings that actually have an effect on performance.

This is never easy to do successfully with multi-platform games.

Because it is being released on PS3, it is FORCED to use a lot of CPU rendering. This is why (for instance) a game like skyrim, completely RAPES people in FPS with shadow settings. The CPU renders the shadows, because that's the only option. The PS3 doesnt have enough raw power in its GPU.

I'm sure they'll have a SOMEWHAT default detection based on hardware. But like all games, 90% of the time this is a huge estimate and if you really care about performance and quality you would never actually go by it.

Just know, that CPU will likely be the huge factor in 2.0 more then anything. I'm not sure about now, as I'm confident that they probably could not get the game to perform well on PS3 at all. Some of the settings causing the game to get a 90% performance loss is pretty good evidence of CPU/GPU optimization.

But the immersion excuse is very tedious.

It's a PC game first, let the PS3 use its CPU rendering and the PC can offload more of the work to the GPU.

This is one easy button I think people would be happy with. Configuring graphics settings shouldn't be something you have to do before you can play. Most games these days can detect your hardware and set reasonable defaults, which you can then adjust later if really necessary.

But testing your configurations is the best part!
