Odder houses seem to require too many ship parts and I am not paying 7-12 mil for a simple house skin.

Ship parts? No ship parts or even materials that come from voyages are needed to build Odder Otter walls. Everything needed to make the Odder Otter walls comes from gathering or normal mob kills except for the Raziqsap to make the Platinum Ingots and that is purchased with GC seals. There isn't even that much that comes from timed nodes.
The prototype parts ARE from ship/sub voyages. Just have to find a FC that has it and is willing to helpShip parts? It takes items that come back on airships to unlock the recipe. It's not a huge expenditure, imo, but we've also got 100s of the items sitting around because we've unlocked everything already.Ship parts? Right. The walls themselves don't need the materials. They just need to be made in a FC workshop that has the prototype unlocked.
I don't want people to be discouraged about getting the things they would like to have because they think something is required that they won't be able to get. Sometimes it's just a matter of asking around to see if someone can help. I contacted Besame as soon as I logged on after her post yesterday, she gathered the materials needed for the walls and we made them in my FC's workshop tonight. Her house is now looking as sharp on the outside as it does on the inside.![]()

Shirogane Castle Wall because it's so underused /s
All of the Lavender Beds exteriors are nice. When I was there, I used the Wood wall with Composite roof. I'm personally not a fan of the Wood roof, but my friend did a fun thing with it last winter where he dyed it white so it looked like his house was covered in snow.

Yeah, Lavender Beds exteriors are pretty good. I wish we were able to use whatever style we wanted regardless of which housing area we're in (Lavender Beds houses in Mist for example). But for now, Shirogane Castle is the one I prefer. It seems to fit decently in every area but Goblet, but that's just my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, Shirogane Castle looks great, and I totally get why it's so popular. I just wish they'd come out with some new hotness so that we can vary up the wards a little again.Yeah, Lavender Beds exteriors are pretty good. While I do love the odder otter house (because it's not Overwhelmingly Otter), I agree with this. The small arms, eatery, etc. skins are a good start, but how about some houses that aren't "Final Fantasy Creature" themed? They could start by applying the main thing everyone asks for - unlock all the housing styles for all the zones - and then we could go with an Ishgardian- or Ala Mhigan-themed housing shell next? Or even something generic that isn't wholly Ul'dah/Limsa/Gridania themed?

SE could artificially increase the amount of exterior skin options by unlocking the glade, riviera, oasis and shirogane housing skins to be usable in all districts. And they really should. The argument for consistency in the exterior environment is completely invalid now that there are so many crazy skins that don't fit in any of the districts' aesthetic. While I do love the odder otter house (because it's not Overwhelmingly Otter), I agree with this.
