Would you want to see old attacks updated?

As Stormblood starts comes to a close and we prepare to move on to the next expansion which will probably get revealed at the fanfest in a few months, I've been thinking a lot lately about the combat system and some of the moves that we have. Specifically I was looking at the base melee classes especially with their combo systems and where the game could go next moving forward.

Now my main is Paladin, I've been playing it since I started the game and as we prepare to move to 80 I've been looking at our base combo along with the current base combos for all the jobs. It's got me thinking something: at level 80 (assuming that is the new level cap) do I really want to spend another 10 levels doing the same combos with the same old animations?

Staying on Paladin specifically, Royal Authority and Goring Blade can stay as they were added in Heavensward, but I really want to see some sort of new melee attacks as part of our base combo rather than just the same ones we've been using since level 1. I also understand that not everyone would be fond of new animations and prefer the old ones so I'm suggesting SE give us the option to alter some of our attacks and their visuals. But I'm also confident that I'm not the only paladin that would like to start my combos with something besides fast blade!

I also would want these theoretical new animations to only be for the higher level characters. It makes sense that a low level gladiator still learning their trade would still be using fast blade! But a level 80 paladin after facing everything we have thus far? I feel as though they'd develop more powerful and more advanced sword techniques to use specifically on their enemies... that is to say something besides the attacks we got in HW!

On a gameplay level, it's also a way they can give us new attacks without causing more button bloat. Simply replace some of the lower level combo starter attacks with new fancier moves that could have some sort of secondary effects or higher potency as well.I also believe it would be thematically appropriate as well since, traditionally, in final fantasy games as you learn newer and stronger attacks and face stronger enemies, you stop using the simpler/weaker ones.

Updated animations could easily be implemented as a passive trait you earn at xx level. They could even easily make the new animation a toggle feature in the character customization menu for players who prefer the old animation. Hell, these are the type of things they should gate behind content, so only the players that actually want it will go after it.

The issue I see is if resources should be used towards such changes. But I also see resources being used to glam Zhloe, so you have my support that's for sure.

I think just adding upgraded versions of those abilities would be a good compromise, so when you get high level it automatically switches to the new version of the ability. That way, there's still more variety in animations, low levels can keep the more humble originals, and high levels get the flashier ones that make sense for them.

Considering they updates Bard and Summoner got in Stormblood to the animations on their DOTs, I don't think it's unreasonable other jobs that other jobs might see similar updates.

As a monk, I'm aching for something new for my core rotation as well considering that hasn't changed at all since 2.0, so I understand the desire for even just new animations.

*Cries in Bard* but at what cost we lost Flaming Arrow & Wide Volley our most beautiful AOEs.

They gave that to mch already (and other classes) might as well run with it and give it to everyone. Some skills really could use a makeover.

I had actually forgotten about the mch ones! That’s an excellent example actually. They’ve slowly updated things here and there but I think the core melee rotations need some love!

I would like that. Some of the old animations of the first class skills don't really fit thematically with what the job became after 2 expansions. The PLD aggro combo for example. It's perfect for Gladiator, but it doesn't look knightly, noble, holy (or whatever) at all. They could also rename them to something more PLD-like. Actually, they could just remove what's left of classes, make it so that after the lvl 30 quest you change to the job permanently, and remake the abilities and animations.

I didn't play 1.0. Were the current class animations from back then or did they make new ones with 2.0?

PLEASE SE LISTEN TO THIS. I main PLD too and at some point is just too boring to use the combo. I liked the idea they implemented with some skills for other classes that, after certain level, it changes (like Ruin to Broil II for SCH, etc). New skills/animations would be very appreciated, and other additions to the game, instead of glamouring NPCs or mindless grinding broken places. +1 to this suggestion.
