“Slowly over time” is the best answer, really. Complete the weekly challenge log for 15% of a level-up, feed it krakka roots when you can.
If you don’t have one already, organise with your FC to have a communal stable and train each other’s chocobos.
I've been playing 3 years, and my chocobo is still only Rank 18. Granted, I haven't focused on my chocobo hard core at any point...but leveling is slow, when you are only getting 300-400xp per kill, and to level up you need 8 million or something...you start to feel defeated and wondering what the point of it all is. I am not in an FC, so I don't get to benefit from the joys of people feeding my chocobo when I'm not around.
Wow! I've had my Chocobo at 20 for years now, but I never knew about the curiel roots. Back in ARR, I use to kill those level 50 water sprites in the South Shroud and then switched to killing those level 50 Garlean robots in Northern Thanalan, because I could sell their drops. Old-timey grinding! Good times!
I was so annoyed that people were competing with me over the few good grinding spots (other people with chocobos and spirit bonding partys), that I started to grind my chocobo on one of these ships you can only enter in the sahagin daylie quests ^^Wow! Another good spot were the Garlean strongholds in Eastern La Noscea & Western Thanalan. When I wanted a change of scenery or people started to use up my mobs, I'd go there.
I actually hope Chocobos don't go beyond 20. I would dread leveling it again.
Oh, I just got one and had "rank" confused with the level it shows me. I'm at "rank 3." =/
I do have it always summoned, doing fates/leves/etc. I never knew about the krakka root thing!
