The best way is to train your chocobo with Curiel Roots until it is his favorite food.
Then you grind monsters with the chocobo, the highest lvl ones you can find (I think that's lvl 69) and feed him with the Curiel Root so he gets the exp buff. When the Curiel Roots are his favorite food the buff will be grade 2.
Then you put him every hour into the stable and train him, take him out right after and continue grinding lvl 69 monsters. And you have to keep the stable clean, there has to be a sparkle effect in the stable to get the most exp for training sessions, sometimes you have to clean it two times in a row to get the effect.
Of course getting hands on the exp roots isn't that simple, however, grinding monsters between the feeding every hour is the best way to level.
The second best way is to find a friend who helps with training. A chocobo can actually be trained two times every hour - by yourself and by one other person. But after you put the chocobo into the stable there is a one hour cooldown on the training for other persons, wich means you can't grind monsters AND train it two times every hour at the same time.

And do the weekly challenge log.
Brevity is the wit of soul.
unfortunately once you're at that level best and really only viable method without going krakka root crazy is weekly challenge logs.
do you have to grow the curiel roots yourself?
I also used to do the Daily Hunts and earned Centurio Seals whilst I was doing it.
“Slowly over time” is the best answer, really. Complete the weekly challenge log for 15% of a level-up, feed it krakka roots when you can.
If you don’t have one already, organise with your FC to have a communal stable and train each other’s chocobos.
Or just make a 2nd character, have them join your FC, and give them half the food. DIY double-feeding.The second best way is to find a friend who helps with training. I've been playing 3 years, and my chocobo is still only Rank 18. Granted, I haven't focused on my chocobo hard core at any point...but leveling is slow, when you are only getting 300-400xp per kill, and to level up you need 8 million or something...you start to feel defeated and wondering what the point of it all is. I am not in an FC, so I don't get to benefit from the joys of people feeding my chocobo when I'm not around.
