But, parsers increased content accessibility, clear rates, the predominance of well-informed rotational guides, and--with those--the cross-class and mechanics-common knowledge useful for both advising and synergizing with other classes... ultimately resulting in... reduced principle toxicity...

In all but tight-enrage, Kiljaeden-esque fights, it's not your numbers people are going to be pissed at in WoW. It'll be your failure to CC, interrupt, or LoS the enemy's near-one-shot skills, CCs, or massive heals. That isn't a parser issue. It's a 'actually giving a modicum of real responsibility even in (heroic) dungeons' or 'there exists a difficulty for which not everyone is immediately ready' issue and its benefits have outweighed its disbenefits. And it's only because the content is so damn easy in all regards but DDR and DPS-checks in XIV that damage ends up "making or breaking" a player's worth, and even then only in the context of the same content they'd "break" for their party if they don't improve.

Funny thing about WoW...the official stance by Blizzard (last I heard) was that they don't want to mandate the use of damage meters or parsers either, which is why they've never offered one that is built into the game itself.

The main difference is that they officially allow and support players creating mods that tap into their API, and one possible mod that can be created is the parser.

So while the officially allow it, they are like SE in that they don't want to require players to use it, and as such have never added an official Blizzard-crated parser.

Since someone quoted it, I wanna mention something here too.

You think Parsing is why WoW is "toxic" compared to FFXIV? I'd argue at this point, nobody outside of mythic raiding gives a care what your dps is. They only care about your item level, straight up.

Must be a slow news day if the OF has fallen back on this old standby for its complaint/debate/dead horse thread. Kinda surprised, usually people complain longer about a patch whenever it drops.

Maybe it's a sign of a good patch?

I don't think there's any way to make it optional. People would be pressured into using it by the community.

That just doesn't cut it as an excuse anymore. The community pressures meta into content that doesn't need it but that doesn't stop people from completing said content. There is a wide pool of people to play with and if a group or two won't let you in without showing your personal parses, then find other players with less stringent criteria to join. Having the ability to easily check your dps is something most players would have an idle curiosity in and making those numbers accessible is fine.

You already are pressured into using it. If you don't meet dps requirements on any jobs. you don't get to raid in a static regularly. You are stuck with Party Finder, and that not a fun option.

I would only support an official parser, ONLY if it were PRIVATE, meaning only you can see your own damage meter and that nobody else had access to it. I don't want to join some 4-man and get kicked because I'm doing too low damage on some job in some leveling roulette or something crazy like that.

This right here is what I would be fine with. Some folks may say that this is a dead horse, but I'm certainly not the only one that keeps bringing it up, and the OF is definitely not the only place that it does come up. I am fine with a private meter because us console players and those whose PCs can't support having multiple things up at once would benefit from it if they chose to use it. Anybody pressuring others into sharing their numbers should be immediately reported - simple as that, along with everything else. Though admittedly, the reason I'm bringing it up today is because I'm tired of assuming that I'm the bad player in the group - without having the numbers to show whether that is true or not. But having official numbers would still be beneficial because it's better than having nothing at all. So yes, I agree with having this, Maeka.

Frankly, any player who cares that much to give half a damn about their contribution most likely won't be the bad in the group... Unless you're entirely new to a fight or using a whole new job in familiar fight, it's unlikely you're the sole contributor to a bad performance or a wipe (depending on your role anyway). And yes there's always the tiny doubt that you're the one at fault and you can't be 100% sure without the hard numbers to convince you but putting in actual effort almost guarantees you'll outperform a lot of the standard playerbase.
