Level 50 World Bosses Camping on Quest Destinations

In my time here in FFXIV I observe that there are a number of level 50 world bosses - not sure what we call them here - in lower level areas. In general, I think these are a great idea. Over the past almost a year that I've been playing on many ALTs, I have encountered them frequently, but only once had difficulties with them Ganking me when I was doing low level quests in the area.

However, since the last update a few days ago, I have been ganked by these bosses three times, and encountered them a couple more times making it impossible to proceed with a quest that I need to do in the immediate area. A couple of times I just logged out with that character and played another assuming that next time I logged in with that toon the boss would be elsewhere.

So, apparently, the game has changed the spawn points for these bosses to include spawn points where quest destinations for much lower level quests will bring low level players in very close proximity to these high level bosses. Often these destinations will cause mobs to spawn which obviously will cause the high level boss to attack if a pet does an AOE in the area. But other wise, the distance from the quest destination is so close that being Ganked by the boss is unavoidable even if the destination is not triggered. Ha Ha... Great joke on a low level player.

The last situation occurred while doing the Main Scenareo quest: Acting the Part in Mor Dhona. Naul was camped right on top of the quest destination.

I think this behavior is a bug that has been introduced in the latest patch.
Sure, a level 70 can be found to help a lower level player out of the situation. But there are enough opportunities to mix it up with higher level players, we don't need another series of these that are just plain annoying for everyone.

Please move the spawn points to avoid low level quest destinations.

    Thanks a ton.

You're probably talking about A/S ranked Notorious Monsters, aka Hunts. They'll sit on an area until they're killed by players. I literally spent about 2 hours hanging around a lvl60 A Rank because I've been mining for the new sub.

Tell your FC, give a few /shouts about it (include <pos> when you do so people know where). Linkshells work too for this. Or heck, you could even put up a Party Finder for it and manually list in your coordinates, people might join it and come kill the mob for you.

As for B Rank Hunts like Naul, they're non-aggressive. Note the blue marker by their name, whereas A/S Ranks will have a red one. You shouldn't have to worry about them as long as someone doesn't come along and cleave you while you're doing your quests.

Yep. Folks are always happy to help I'm just saying when a level 50 like Naul is standing right on top of the destination, you get ganked. "Non-Agressive" or not, he killed me. And of course I didn't even get a chance to spawn the mobs at the destination the fight with which would have surely caused him to get aggressive. Didn't get to do that tho. Like I said, this appears to be new behavior, in my experience of playing for almost a year. Until the 4.4 patch we just had, only encountered it once before. Something changed.

i know a lot of people don't like the NN ( novice network) but there are normally 1 or 2 hunter mentors sitting in the channel and if you let them know about it they are normally there in minutes to take it out for you.

Did you hit the B rank, because I've had no issue on my alt at all and have yet for them to attack me, even the smallest hit can argo them to you. I've seen people dot them or smack them with their pickaxe thinking because they're a low lvl it wont touch them. It will and will kill you. Plus its fairly common to think your targeting say a botanist node or miner node and accidentally target the mob instead. Also any aoes can hit them too. and quest mobs can be drawn away from the B ranks to avoid agroing it, you can spawn them and walk away to a safe distance and they will not reset usually. So you are doing something to hit them to make them kill you.

Must've been a hit so small that I didn't notice it. Didn't even get close to the destination that I needed to activate.
Maybe this design means that more folks looking for these bosses find them since they hear the screams from the dead lower level players to alert them. Just one more thing we need and that's glowing skeletons left of the dead to mark the spawn points so folks can check back. And so that the deaths can be counted more easily.
Right? It's not a bug. It's an opportunity.

ARR A/S ranks are indeed pretty horribly placed compared to the HW/SB ones and it really does seem like they put them uncomfortably close to quest objectives at times to encourage people to clean them out.

Some standouts are the spawn point directly on top of the Cape Westwind entrance/objective and the one right next to the BLM job trainer in Eastern Thanalan.

Have you tried doing a general shout about an elite mark? I don't know anything about your server, but there might be a hunting linkshell, too. Could give a shout in a populated city like Limsa and see if you could get into a linkshell, that way when you run into another mark like this, you can let the linkshell know so they can take care of it.

Shouts should work for A and S ranks but since B ranks don't give you anything unless you have a hunt mark for them I could see where they might be ignored. My only suggestion is to note in any shout that it is on top of a quest point and ask for help to clear it so you can keep on questing.

Yep, shouts work perfectly in these situations. Most of the time (at least on our server) there are several hunters taking down hunts, so a simple shout is usually sufficient for the hunt horde to come running
