Escalating skill requirements & FFXIV future

I'm glad there are people who find every element of the game enjoyable. I'm glad there are people who will find the pieces I'm going to talk about easy & fun.

This post is not for them.

I've been playing MMOs since 2000. At this point in FFXIV, I don't see a future for myself in this game. The level of gameplay skill required JUST to get through the MSQ is fast approaching the limits of my capabilities.

Bard main, i350 - & I can NOT get through The Will of the Moon (just the part where I still get to play my own class, never mind the part where I would be forced to play as another).

At what point does a dev team recognize that continually boosting 'challenge' in _required_ content will eventually drive away part of their player base? I've already quit GW2 for exactly this issue - I couldn't complete the main story quests.

Please, leave the extreme difficulty for, you know - EXTREMES (& savages). Tone down the MSQ battles & job quest battles (I'm looking at you, RDM 60 battle) that end if multiple solo deaths with no way to get help when you need it. At the very least, USE the tool YOU built into the game, the Echo, & allow us to have it in these instanced fights!

P.S. You should also add an 'Other' option to the account cancellation process where we could enter the actual reasons instead of the ones you've selected for us in the preset list - in my case, 'game difficulty too hard to be fun'.

This fight wasn't even a challenge though, nothing about it screamed difficult. She just melts, and the adds melt.

they do give you an echo buff in msq solo duties if you fail too many times. they also added a hp regen effect to all of them naturally.

as a pld i didn't have to use clemency once because of the said hp regen.

I'm actually really glad that, aside from dungeons, almost every piece of content in this game has followed a difficulty curve instead of staying static, usually you'd have the difficulty remain fairly static (or even get easier in the case of 3.4) so having things actually get harder as you progress through the various points of the expansion os really nice, it forces you to get better gradually while not necessarily dumping a really hard encounter on you out of nowhere.

If you have trouble with it you simply have to do the same thing you'd do in other games: keep practicing until you're good enough to beat it.

Sorry to hear, but this was far from difficult, i did it with lagging and lower ilvl and had no problems. And the difficulty in general is far to low or far to high and this is one somwhere in the middle.

If you loose three times in a row, the amount of echo you receive is amazing. It is close to doubling your health and dps. The regen is also heavy, even with bad lag you should be able to clear. Just go into the msq instance knowing that you may need to redo it a few times till you can clear it.

The answer to your problem is The Echo.

In that, YOUR incapability should be given an option to clear if you fail (Echo buffs from repeating the trial 5+ times), not the other way around (gimping content entirely). If you fail 5 times in a row, you should just be buffed to the point where you'll survive eating every single AoE. This way, people who enjoy the harder content will feel satisfied clearing it on the first attempt and those who want an easier fight can still clear via repeated attempts.

The alternative of making content easier is not the solution and not a positive direction for the game to go in the long run.

edit: Or SE can add "Story mode" and "Warrior of Light mode" to all solo instances so you dont have to waste the time failing.

    WHAT?
    1-Spaming Stone to damage
    2-Dot when needed
3-Heal yourself and hien (it's basically a full heal)
    4-Mp

Just learn the Skills before starting. You can spend a good time before pulling the boss to learn these FOUR skills.
It's bellow basic. And if you fail 3 times, you get Echo, basically granting you God power to complete this face roll type of difficulty content.

As for the fight: Dodge things and kill adds. At the end focus on her, and not the adds. Focus on Magnai, spam stone and DoT, heal hien when he's low on health, dodge stuff, and kill the add near hien.

I did have to do that part twice, because I got caught up on ***SPOILERS*** the adds she summoned, but when I started again, I just focused on the adds when I got to that part. Plus, I knew that was my fault, not SE's. I just corrected myself. I didn't ragequit. :/
