    Why Megaservers are a very very bad idea.

    As one who loves communities and knows their individuality is important, I will probably quit FF14 if the game has megaservers implemented because of what it will do to the markets, the communities feel, RP, and so on.

    Implementing Megaservers is not an idea that should be lightly tossed around for the following reasons:

    #1 Servers build up their communities specifically so they can be different and appeal to different people.

    #2 You have to consider the marketboard no matter what way you slice it, SE look at other games for reference as to what this can cause.

    #3 It can cause even MORE challenges for you with your current ward system for housing.

    #4 You have to consider your playerbase and what it mostly consists of, PvE players are the minority on the NA/EU side.

    Your highest population server is a roleplay server, RP on sharded megaservers will completely discourage RPers from wanting to play your game because it'll just be more difficult to get everyone on the same shard.

    #5 No matter what way you put it, You will have to add shards. With your playerbase? There is absolutely no way any one zone will be able to handle the sheer volume of players in it on patch day or for RP or even just for players AFKing/crafting in zones.

    The reality of it is there are technical challenges and honestly I'm sure alot of us really don't want mega-servers.

    Yes this is a direct attempt to discourage the implementation of them and theres a reason, I care about FF14 and doing this will damage it once again. We don't need that.

    Did they actually entertain this idea?

    I can't imagine it happening until the game is on its last legs in any case.

    Considering their constant "server limitations" line, I highly doubt the game is even capable of having a megaserver system in the first place. They haven't figured out how to run small ones yet.

    Just look at the way instance servers currently die with storyline bottlenecks during new patch days and you can see why having MORE people grouped on top of a destination marker is a bad idea.
