    PC powers down during cutscenes.

Alright, I've come back to FFXIV, and I'm having a quite huge problem. You see, when I load some cutscenes, my entire PC just powers down, the just doesn't crash, the PC itself stops working.

So far I've seen this happen on Byakko EX intro and death, Mist Dragon intro and death and some MSQ cinematics, at this moment, I'm on the second cinematic on the house of the croocked coin, after the instance.

So far it has been crashing always at the same moment, when Y'Shtola starts doing her magic thing.

Here you have some video evidence of what happens:

I've unistalled all the nvidia drivers, reinstalled them, reinstalled FF14, clean the temporary archives, put the game to minimal graphics and deactivated the sound. Still keeps crashing.

Any clue what might be causing the problem and how to fix it?

My PC has a GTX970, i5 4690, 8 GB of RAM and a SSD, if that helps.

All I can think of is, a surge protection being tripped somewhere, check your PSU and see if it's capable of supplying power to the unit under max load, also check if power connectors are properly seated on the GPU and Motherboard, lastly, if you happen to have a PSU that can supply more power than the one you currently have, try that one.

There's a sound it makes on both videos right as it shuts down, and to me it doesn't sound like a normal powering down, it's immediate loss of power from the PSU, it's very similar to when you pull the plug out of the wall with your unit running.

I second this. This sounds of a hardware failure.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

As the above poster mentioned, it does sound like the Power Supply is giving out for some reason (not necessarily that the PSU is dying however). Generally, if it's a graphics card crash, the rest of the PC will stay on and you would have to force restart it. What is the wattage for that PSU? How is it plugged into the outlet?

Maybe try plugging the PC into a different power strip and then plug that into a different wall outlet (preferably by itself). If it is a power supply issue, it may resolve the issue.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

That is one of three issues:

    1) Thermal shutdown, all Intel CPU's do this, which means you need to replace/clean the cooler/fan on the CPU. (GPU's thermal shutdown is the dreaded "the video driver has crashed" type of message.)

    2) PSU is under-sized for the GPU being used, or the power draw through the GPU power cable is too much and is tripping the breaker in the PSU. You need a 500watt PSU or better for that GPU to cover the maximum power draw (145 watts) for that GPU. The CPU you have selected is an 84 watt TDP, and the haswell series is slightly problematic when it comes to thermal cooling, as the stock thermal paste is basically rubbish.

    3) If connected to a UPS, Most computer GPU's are too powerful for anything less than a $500 UPS, and don't have the proper sine-wave AC, so this results in a loss in efficiency for the PSU.
