Probably successfully wiping out the Ascians with our attack on Garlemald, just like with the WoD.This time too, in french, they sound nothing alike. And, opposite to Arbert, we can actually hear Alphinaud's voice in SB to compare.
As for Time travel, I really hope it's not the case, because time travel is a very risky narrative that usually makes no sense if you think too much about it...However, alternate dimension would be totally different, since we know there are reflections of our world. What I wonder though is why now ? What event will be so important that it actually triggers a Flood Of Light. We've been killing Primals, Voidsents and Ascians for several years...
Lyse sure has not got much screen time despite her being the center of the videos before the expansion, she seemed more useful when she was a Pugilist wearing the mask, lol
As for the ending i really wanted to see more, so this one was simply a tease.
I cannot for the life of me remember the persons name but what about that boy that wears a mask that we interact with which is in Minfilias office? Could he not be a part of something?
After Urianger and Yshtola went down I went to see if Unukalhai might have been able to shed some light on my suspicions, though I didn't see any unique response from him offered. Does he have the echo, too?

A thank you for the name, lol
We still do not really know all too much about him or his actual motives as to why he is around
Well the Ascians are not known to be really trustworthy so why should Zodiark be it? If he is the one that is speaking to us (and I find that way more possible than the WoD who should be death) then it does not mean that he is speaking the truth. Maybe we will trust that voice (I would not after they took the souls of scions) and do what it says and will create another calamity with that. And maybe by doing the thing that we planned on doing we would stop a calamity from happening which is something that Zodiark would not like. While Zodiark is a good theory, remember that whoever is trying to contact us is doing so as a warning. And not just about a calamity of "light" as happened on the First, but twin calamities that we (the WoL) have to somehow thread our way between. I really doubt whether Zodiark would warn us, even vaguely, about something he was planning. It just wouldn't make sense. I really feel that whoever is talking to us, the only agenda they have is maintaining the status quo.
There are still quite a lot of Ascians overlords left and we do need a lot of Aether just to kill one. If we dont get a strange device or anything in the story that makes it easier, we should not be able to wipe them out.
We do know that he came from the shard that got a Flood of Darkness and is now the void and that he might have been a future WoL on that shard if he was born earlier. Elidibus saved him so that he will help us against the Triads because seemingly they were too dangerous to his plan (or something like that). I am not sure if Elidibus has any further plans with him or if the boy would even work with him anymore.

If thats whats gonna happen in the future i have an easier answer of what might have happened to the Ascians overlords:
If the world is tilting naturally to the light (something strange with the aether is happening already on multiple places), and Ascians are trying to bring balance back then lean towards darkness, if a monkey wrench is thrown right now on their plans the balance will crumble before they manage to recover and then the world will be hit by a Flood of Light.
Lets put it this way, if the Ascians have limited time to salvage the situation, just delaying their plans might make them "lose" by timeout
The scions, mostly, don't have the echo, so it's not related to that. The only ones that did, as I recall, were the Warrior of Light, Minfilia, and Krile. Y'Shtola, Thancred, Alisae, and the others don't have the echo. Also I find it interesting that Lys was unaffected by it, so if it was someone attempting to reach the scions specifically, it would have to be someone who knew she quit her position in the organization during this expansion.
Initially I had thought it might be the Warriors or Darkness trying to either warn us about taking the power of light on our world too far, or wanting to be brought back to our world. But if that were they case, they would reach out to Lys and not to Alisae. But, maybe I'm over thinking that aspect.
I agree it does sound like both of them... I was also thinking what if they threw a curve ball considering the shards are different versions of the same world. What if it’s actually Louisoix? The Japanese VO, to me, sounds like a cross between Urianger and Alphinaud? Like I think the underlying timbre is more like Alphinaud's voice actor's, but the hoarsness reminds me of the way Urianger sounds. Perhaps it's an alt reality version of Alphy who's... either seen some stuff or hung around Urianger for too long? I'd go with the latter, too much Urianger messeth with thine brayn, forsooth. Verily.
Gumption.
Ahem... For comparison, here's the 4.4 trailer (~2:48), Urianger's sample from AAR (0:50) surprisingly hard to find anything more recent, and Alphinaud from 4.3 trailer (1:07).
As for the WoD theory, I can see that... but I'm not 100% convinced. The actor's underlying voice doesn't quite sound like Arbert to me, but it's been a while since I heard him in the game so maybe I need to hear more samples to see it. Alphy's and Urianger's voices are much much fresher in my memory. Anyways, for the sake of completeness, here's him and post-HW Alphinaud side-by-side (8:51 and 9:54 respectively).
There's also a high chance that we're totally overthinking it and it's actually a new character.
You've forgotten about our cute kohai, Arenvald. Arenvald has echo, and seems to be a most likely candidate for sending us messages from the future. A future in which we are dead and he's the WoL.....by default... and in need of us fixing things to save him.
Ahhhh... you may have a point, but Arenvald's voice has a twinge of a Scottish accent in there (listen to it HERE), while Arbert's doesn't.
