They want you to buy extra storage. It's hard wired into their design for the game.

I would like a crafting bag system like what exists in Guild Wars 2 and ESO. A bag that holds all crafting materials....

Essentially you would like to see the 'tomestone' approach taken to the crafting materials and materia? I can appreciate the idea.

Endgame Iron and Common Iron. Endgame Materia and Common Materia.

I'd be a lot happier and more productive in leveling crafters, if I could just craft directly from the retainer inventory instead of requiring it to be on my character.

Putting these together... one of your extra retainers could be a crafting retainer that works like the ESO crafting bag, allow you to store "endless" (generic end-game) mats and have them automatically deducted from your retainer when you use them.

ESO lets you keep taking things out of the bag if you stop paying but no longer add things, but that could be changed up for FFXIV if that particular aspect doesn't work.

Don't know what FFXIV could handle such a system or that a special crafting retainer fee would make it worthwile anyway. Plus those who can't afford the special retainer might resent what feels like a P2P crafting system.

Oh well, for now the inventory management mini-game continues...
