    I think they were just trying to be cute with omega being an ancient machine they use outdated terminology

    It's not too hard to either just remember starboard = right side which may serve you in real life at some point
    or
    "l"arboard = left

    i'd be more on board with people making this out to be super confusing if there were complaints about bright blade and dark blade or any of the other left and right moves that don't use actual terms for left and right at all

    If you're not familiar with the terms already, it doesn't really matter what they're called, because it's all equally confusing. Might as well call it "Roy" and "Bob". You have to connect the words with the meaning regardless and whether you learn:"Larboard = Left, Starboard = Right", or "Roy = Left, Bob = Right" isn't really any different.

    After getting used to it, people likely will mentally omit most of the word anyway and only look whether the first letter is an L or an S.

    Does this mean we’re going to have to change the name of all other boss abilities so it tells you where the attack is going? I don’t know why a big fuss needs to be made about an ability when you just need to remember what it’s called and where it goes.

    It's the kind of mechanic you fail once. Then you understand it and don't fail it again. It really doesn't need to be changed or fixed.

    I got lucky and got starboard the first time, which I've been on a cruise before I learned then that meant right, so I knew he was doing something on the right so I stayed left. Then I noticed he switched sides and did Larboard. Not knowing what the shit that meant, I assumed it was the opposite of Starboard, knowing he flipped sides this meant stay.

    It's fine the way it is, it does contributw for the difficult demand, it would be tooooo easy with jus "left or right" term. Although, you can use Larboard for Left as it start with "L" too.

    I don't even care about the nautical terms, its that the two words are spelled almost exactly the same and It's confusing in a rush
    This is exactly why sailors changed it from larboard to port. Because during a storm or in the heat of a battle, when somebody shouts "LARBOARD" from a distance, larboard sounds an awful lot like starboard. Hence the confusion and change.

    its not solely the name, its the fact that the mechanic is very quick, more so than calofisteri who they copy from, and they added a little curve to it, so if you are behind it you have less reaction time due to needing to walk more. Eh, tbh though this tier turned me off from the game a little, the larboard thing is just one of the ways the fights aren't fun for me.

    The mechanic isn't too quick, you are just doing it wrong. The idea is not to look for the telegraphed attack, but rather anticipate the move ahead of time. So if he says starboard, he will always be facing "north", so you go to the right. At this point you should be preparing for the next mechanic. In your head you should think "this spot is larboard if he turns". He will then turn, and if it is larboard then you stay put.

    The problem people have is that they try to do this entire thought process during the cast of star/lar and that as you say, would not be enough time. In reality you have plenty of time to work out the logistics of your next move ahead of time. Its a 50/50 choice at the end of the day.

    I'm not having a dig at you btw, I thought it was too quick too until I figured out how to do it, and now it isn't very difficult. Think of it like O10 than a traditional attack.

    um..he only gives a second or so to parse "he is saying starboard" and then to move. As soon as i see it in the cast bar i need to recognize which side, that's the issue. there's no anticipation, you react to his cast, and he can and will change the usage; he has done two larboards in a row, for example.

    Very much this along with the sideways turn and his face looking almost the same as his rear. Does he always face to the left?
