New player here, just learn some things

    Hi everybody,

I just wanted to ask some things about my character and some other things in general.

First, I'm actually new to the game, but I'm feeling like I'm playing a single player game, since i created my character I've never talked to somebody in the game and now I'm an archer lvl 33, I found my controller so unconfortable to talk with other persons (it feels weird to write with the controller and not with a keyboard). There is another easy way to talk to people in the game since I'm a PS4 player?

Second, I was dedicating time to do some main scenario quest and other secondaries but is in this moment that I realize that I can take another job like carpenter, botanist, fisher, miner, conjurer, lancer, etc... Can i take another job without losing my progress as an archer? Also, how can I become a Bard?

Sorry if I look actually lost to the game but I have to learn one way or another haha Also if you want to play with me, teach me things about the game, I'm playing in Exodus and my name is U'mitu Edorard. Any recomendation is welcome

    Thanks in advance!

It is possible to connect a keyboard to a PS4, right? Doing that should make it easier to talk with others.

You can do all classes and jobs on a single character. You will not lose progress on your existing class by leveling other jobs or classes.

To become a Bard you need to finish the level 30 Archer class quest. Once that is done there will be a quest available near you that will let you pick up the Bard job.

You can hook up a keyboard or try to master the use of the Auto-Translation Dictionary.

Most PS4 players use a keyboard for chat, though typically stick with the controller for everything else. In fact, the game has a "Direct Chat" option (which I believe is the default for PS4) which makes the game automatically switch to the chat box whenever you start typing. Any USB or Bluetooth keyboard should work with PS4. If you're going with a wired USB one, just make sure the cord is long enough to reach to where you sit while playing. (That may eliminate some options since TV to couch distances tend to be farther than the PC to desk distances envisioned when making keyboards for PC.) I have a USB keyboard with an extra long cord, but many players prefer wireless keyboards to avoid that problem. There's also options for either full size or mini keyboards. Personally, I find typing easier on a full size keyboard. I play with the keyboard on my lap and the controller usually in my hands. I just set the controller down for a moment when I need to type.

When you add other classes, you don't lose your experience as an archer, but neither do you get to keep that level on the other class. If you unlock carpenter, for example, you would then be a level 33 archer and level 1 carpenter. You can add any or all classes in the game, but each one will have its own level. Whenever you switch to a different class, you'll also be switching to the level you have in that class. Once unlocked (by a simple quest at the class's guild hall), you switch between them simply by equipping that class's main hand weapon or tool. (Typically, though, you'll want to switch all your gear at once, since you'll need gear that's appropriate to both the level of that class and its role. If you haven't yet used the "gear set list" from the character window, you'll want to once you add multiple classes. It's basically just a way of having the game remember which gear you want to use together, so you can change it all out at once.)

For upgrading Archer to Bard, or any other combat class to its associated job(s), do all your class quests (which you should be doing anyway, each five levels). Then when you finish the level 30 one, a quest will open up at the class guildhall to unlock your job. For Bard, the quest is A Song of Bards and Bowmen. That quest will introduce your job trainer and send you to where you'll take subsequent job quests (in the South Shroud in this case). Then, just as you had class quests each five levels from 1 - 30, you'll instead have job quests each five levels from 30 - 50, then each 2 or 3 levels after that.

    EDIT:
Oh, and to unlock jobs, you also have to have completed at least up through the quest Sylph-management in the main scenario. It's at level 20, but a lot of people out-level the main scenario quests, especially if they do a lot of the optional side content and/or run dungeons repeatedly.

Wow! I didn't know that I'm able to switch to every class or job, that's great. Actually never thought of connect a keyboard to my PS4,I guess it will solve my problem indeed.

Thanks for your time to respond!

Never thought of connecting a keyboard to my PS4 haha but it was something that didn't cross my mind tbh.

Hey thanks for all of this information, it helps a lot to know all this detailed information about the game, classes and jobs. I will now start to play more confident and actually do more than being an Archer.

Thanks for your time to respond!

Make sure you equip some level 1 gear before changing to a new class for the first time! Otherwise the game automatically de-equips anything a Lv1 player can't wear (ie. probably everything you're wearing) and you're left standing in the guild in your underwear.

If you threw out your starter gear, you can buy it again from Maisenta near the main aetheryte in Gridania.

Also word of advice do not use any of those keyboard attachments to you controller. I’ve tried them all and they are rubbish. Oh and if you do go wireless don’t get a Bluetooth keyboard. The annoying delay you get when it auto turns off after a few minutes drove me insane.

I should have added I use a normal wireless keyboard and that’s the best option I’ve had personally.

I have never actually played PS4, but from playing Xbox, yes...typing without a keyboard is a pain.

I would use a keyboard that attaches to your controller. However, I don’t know how good these work.

You can be every class on one character. All fighting, gathering, crafting classes.

In addition to a comment I saw about throwing away old gear: I would avoid doing this if you ever want to get into crafting because you can desythedis these for meterials. You can also sell them to your Grand Company quartermaster I think. Also, I use old gear all the time when leveling up new classes.

For a Bard, you need to complete all of your class quests up to level 30. I think these are normally found at the Archer’s guild in Gridania. Then you will get a quest to become a Bard.
