Unable to complete version check

So this issue has been happening a lot and lot and lot and lot. Usually I was able to solve it with a reinstall and a restart or something like that.

However this time even on a brand new fresh install of the game I am getting.
Unable to complete version check.

I'm rather exhausted with how frequently this problem happens whenever there is a patch. If anyone could help me figure out how to fix this...

Today FFXIV is down for maintenance for Patch 4.4 It wont be back up till tomorrow.

You're telling me I can't start the Launcher during a maintenance? I don't recall that ever having been true before. I know I couldn't start the game but this is the Launcher.

Until the patch is available for download, the launcher will probably give you the error codes until it can update. If you’re on PS4, I think the new patching system is also down until 8pm PDT, so that could have an effect if you’re a PS4 player.

This is happening to me too. I'm a new player so although I knew I wouldn't be able to get into the game, I thought maybe I could bring up the launcher and start downloading the patch.

Relieved to know this is normal behaviour.

Okay, Thank you very much for that. I was rather confused by all this as that kind of problem usually had something entirely different as the cause. Oh well guess I'm playing this new patch with a fresh install.

Not a problem! This patch is major on multiple fronts. But even more so for PS4 which is probably why the service is down completely both for PC and PS4.

So, no one can access the game right now? Its frustrating since they said it would be around 1030PM (PDT) on the 17th and its a full 12hrs ahead. Many of us planned on finishing stuff off today before the patch
