Please tell me that the 24 hour period isn't accurate. It's my birthday, I got the day off from work, and planned on sitting on my butt playing FFXIV all day.

For main patches, it will likely be the full 24 hours (4.4 is a main patch with lots of new content coming). It may end an hour or two early, but I would expect the game to be down the entire day. Main patches usually take the entire maintenance duration compared to hotfix patches or sub-patches, which maintenance may end early.
