Now, that's not to say there aren't some animation updates that would be for the better, but I want actual quality, not just (eye-gouging) flair.

Auto-attacks, unique casting animations/effects, and spell projectiles are actually what I'd like to see focused first though.

Remember the outcry for "why can't we have Lightning and Fireballs like the cinematic WoL BLM has?!!"? I remember.
The gunfu actually made me like Mch again because I hated the base animations that it had at the time and I hear what you're saying for stone III and stone IV but that's exactly what I'm looking for, old attacks to be replaced to symbolize that our character has gotten stronger by learning new attacks. Plus, it's more in the spirit of final fantasy itself where once you learned a higher tier of spell or ability, you stopped using the old ones against your strongest opponents.

I hear what you're saying about not wanting it to be just be flashy for the sake of being flashy, but the base melee attacks for pld/mrd/drg/mnk could use some love with a bit more variety in casting animations, especially for blm I agree. In comparison to the new attacks we have, the old stuff is really starting to feel dated.
