So I saw this news and I'm kind of cheesed that there's at least one item that was/is a contest prize that you can just buy with an insignificant amount of gil. Doesn't that kind of ruin the point of having it be a prize altogether?

I seem to remember folk justifying the 1.0 earrings no longer being exclusive. I don't see the problem with making event items freely available to everyone. Heck, take it further, every exclusive item should be made available.

I don't really consider playing 1.0 to be winning a contest. Meanwhile I put effort into the entries I submitted to multiple contests to win the Scarf of Wondrous Wit, and now any ol schmuck can buy it with no effort.

So when do they add the feature to spend 50 gil to finish a raid? And those hairstyles and emotes locked behind HoH? When can I buy those for next to nothing.

I love the mental gymnastics at work here. This would be adorable if it wasn't so transparent.

Maybe if the community had banded together before, when other exclusives were being stripped, you wouldn't be in this position now? But that wasn't the case before, and won't be the case now. Your thread will be filled to the brim with people telling you to get over it, same as every thread before - White Ravens or otherwise.


I'm against this just as much as I was against giving away the White Ravens, or reusing the Zodiac Relic models, or whatever. Not gonna waste a lot of time rallying the cause though since 1) the community's going to do what I said, and 2) Square's not going to care (or respond, probably). They ain't gonna make it a replica, either. You've got even less time than the White Ravens crew had.

What about the countless people banned from the official forums but not from the game itself? They literally can't enter any contests short of abandoning their characters and making new accounts, so for a not-insignificant portion of the population the contest rewards literally ARE unobtainable.

People put effort into getting their earrings. Come on, it was obvious that they'd do this with other "exclusive" items after the community approved so heavily of the earrings being made available.

If it's the scarf you're worried about, then I think you're a bit late. They've already put it for sale in the past. Pretty sure it's sitting in my Armoire somewhere.

I'll make the same argument I did about the earrings. Barely anyone used/showed them off anyway and you still have had exclusivity for a decent length of time. Get over it. I did the FF11 collab back in the day for my Shantotto minion, it then went onto Mogstation a few years later. Know how I felt? I didn't care. I didn't use the damn thing anyway and if some "schmuck" who joins late wants it and will get some enjoyment from it why should I care?

This scarf is actually set on one of my 10 glamour plates right now.

I'm not super bothered by it being given away, I just wish it didn't feel like they were haphazardly giving things out. White ravens are less prestigious than garlond goggles now, they should have given out white ravens after every other 1.0 exclusive IMO. This scarf is still a current contest reward, RIP everyone who picked it as their item.
