    FPS Not Matching Framerate Limiter

I've reached a problem where my fps limiter in-game results in odd frame limits that don't match up.

I'm playing on a Razer Blade 15 with a 144hz 1080p monitor. Inside is an Nvida 1070 GPU. Today, I tried updating to the newest Nvidia driver release, which is when this problem started. However, even after rolling back my drivers to previous releases, I've been unable to resolve it.

    Here's what happens:

I'll boot up the game--I usually play in windowed mode--with the FPS limiter set to 36 (because of the 144hz monitor.) However, the FPS caps at 28, and will occasionally dip far lower in dungeons and more clustered content...something that DID NOT happen before.

Setting the limiter to 72 FPS has the same result, except that it caps at 48 instead. Uncapping it results in a framerate that's all over the place, but doesn't usually get over 110 FPS.

    Before the problem:

My experience in FFXIV with regards to computer performance was rock-solid. Limiter at 36 fps? It held steady at 36 everywhere. Same for 72.

I'm at a loss as to how to resolve this, and it's ONLY happening in FFXIV. I've rolled back previous drivers. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Changed as many settings as I can find in the FFXIV System Settings.

Has anyone else experienced this, and moreover, has anyone had luck resolving it?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

When you reverted to the previous graphics drivers, did it give you the option to do a clean install? You may want to try this when you reinstall as it will clear any configurations that may be causing an issue like this.

As for the limiter itself, try going into the Nvidia Control Panel, select 'Manage 3D Settings' and find Final Fantasy XIV under 'Program Settings'. Find the 'Vertical Sync' option and set it to 'Adaptive (half refresh rate).' This should limit your in-game FPS to 72. Does this limit the frame-rate appropriately? Or are you running into the same problem as before?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
