What is up with this game?

Heya everyone,
over the course i tried out serveral servers and landed now on Istory, but what is it with this game and the complete absence of communication? Wherever i go theres no chat at all. Sites with Linkshells presenting themselves are pretty much dead. Its really hard to get into the game if it just feels like a pool of mute people running around some and otherwise being doomed to play alone :<

So am i just missing out the secret place of chat or is this game pretty much dead even though it got so much better by now from the game mechanics.

This game has one of the most diverse language barriers. Because of this, people never know if they're being understood by a person they're unfamiliar with. It's also because of this that people tend to stay quiet outside of (Party) and (Linkshell). Seems to be an unspoken rule in a sense.

Our Secret place to chat is on vent. At least for my linkshell. Can't speak for everyone. I also believe tons of people are taking a break until 1.21.

Trabia doesn't seem too bad. Lots of people are friendly enough and I feel like we're just the right size.

Our LS voicechat is where a lot of fun chatter takes place. Once in a while /say is used in towns, but that's usually isolated. No one wants to spam the main chats with talk that isn't about getting groups set up, they save the social chat for parties and LS chat.

There are three things about this.

1) Your server may be dead. Besaid is very lively in the common areas like Uldah.

2) The combat system doesn't allow players to communicate "on the fly." In XI, chatting in party was fairly easy because of both the keyboard layout and the combat system (pull camps.) The way the layout is in XIV does not lend itself well to easy communication during action. Also, controller players are going to have challenges and I know a good number of them.

3) You cannot easily craft/gather while carrying on a conversation via keyboard. Every time an action is que'd it resets the chatlog and interrupts what you are saying. If you are typing "how is your day?" a que'd action may pop up and all that gets sent is "y?" because the initial part was cutoff while you were still typing (basically, it interrupted the message while you were still trying to communicate.)

These should all be fixed either at 2.0 or before. But yes, it does suck atm.

I guess i just need to find myself a LS then hehe but a lot seem to focus on lategame with me being more causal and just a few hours on the evening.

Still its pretty sad for a game that there is really no social interaction publically. It also makes finding friends to play with inside the game very hard. i hope things like that get better with the next few patches

the best way to find new friends to share a common goal like exping together. Try to join a party in Uldah.

You got the right idea get yourself into a linkshell they will be your family in the game. Do everything for/with your linkshell. Ask the LS first if anyone wants to exp. People tend to ignore a /s or /sh as you would a stranger on the street . Shouting should be reserved for quickly forming a party for ether exp or primal fights.
