Are dwarves the new race for 5.0?

Will be Dwarves be the new race to contrast with the tall bunny race?

They could just add more beards for lalas instead.

I'm thinking more to the idea of Lupines in contrast to Viera. Also, inB4 the boon to the ERP community at that point.

...when did they even confirm Viera as a new race that would be added with 5.0? I've been on holidays for a while and feel like I must have missed that annoucment (and a quick search didnt brought anything up)

And further than that: When did they confirm that we would get two new races with 5.0?
Because unless they official state that somewhere, I wouldnt expect that to happen, since I imagine that developing a new race is quite a lot of work, seeing how they would have to adjust all gear in the game to fit that race.
Furthermore there are certain lore-limits on introducing new races, I would imagine. While both the dwarves and the Viera could probably get a decent enough explantion for why they arent known in Eorzea, drawing from the respective games they appear in (with the dwarves simply living underground and the Viera in a magically hidden forest), it would probably still cause a bit of a headache to get two new races into the game without being to irritating. Remember the big deal they made out of Yugiri in ARR just to make sure that Au Ra dont interfer to much with whats known in Eorzea?

So unless they've actually confirmed any new race, I wouldnt get my hopes up for one, not even to mention two.

If anyone can provide me with a source though, I'll happly stand corrected and while I'm not intrested in new races personally, I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you who want to be bunnies or hairy lalafell!

There's no official source. Just a person saying certain things, those included, with some of what they said previously being correct, suggesting someone that actually knows rather than guesses.

But it may be simply a case of them being very good at guessing and being correct before...but the rest of what they said being wrong.

There has been a person who has been leaking things pretty accurately for several patches and they said that viera will be a new race. Supposedly there will be another race but they did not say what it is because they don't want to spoil the story (I'm mildly amused this person has some standards as to what is and isn't okay to leak). I'm not going to provide any links to this as I doubt the mods would take kindly to that sort of thing being linked on the official forum.

Viera have been mentioned in game in the SB alliance raid storyline, so it has at least been confirmed that they do exist in the story for the game. They were originally intended as a new race in HW, official concept art does exist, but for whatever reason we got au ra instead.

It's also no secret that viera is a highly requested race by players.

So with all this in mind, it seems very likely they will be playable at some point.

The guy who was giving leaks accurately predicted the first two raid bosses of Alphascape. Chaos and Midgosomner.

Even if he was lying, the chances of someone accurately guessing the first two bosses like that considering how random Deltascape has been-seems crazy.

(Source-ish) Yoshi P confirmed Choas was the first boss in the live letter, and the patch trailer has the raid fighting midsogmoner

honestly, i doubt it. lalafells pretty comfortably fit the 'dwarves but cute and childlike' trope final fantasy has long been fond of employing when it comes to including a "short" race, being that they're the latest addition to other races like the pelupelu (ff10), the litty (crystal chronicles), tarutaru (ffxi and the clear predecessor to lalas), all of whom are notably on the shorter end and distinctly childlike. while we've had proper dwarves in a earlier titles (the latest iirc ff9), i have a lot of doubts that they would bring it back now. i just don't see squeenix bothering when said trope is already so comfortably subverted and filled by lalas.

that being said, i think it would be interesting if we got another humanoid race to match hyurs, potentially being garlean and doman. this would be difficult to implement, though-- and doman would serve better as a third 'tribe' option for the races we've seen to have doman counterparts (hyur, roe, etc) instead, if they went that route. but it would make sense for them to add a garlean race of sorts, if they could figure out how to work it out, especially since garleans do have distinct physical differences from eorzean hyurs and hyurs in general (on the taller end, their third eye, etc).

all that would remain would be trying to explain away their lack of affinity for magic, and how to include them in the story from the beginning without heavily breaking lore. it would certainly be an interesting move. unfortunately it holds a lot of the same roadblocks that including the padjal might-- for lore reasons, it's not likely. but it doesn't hurt to hold out hope.

then, if we're to think that they're looking toward past final fantasy races for inspiration, there's a couple of candidates they could revamp to include:

    - the guado of ff10, although it would likely be more inspiration than direct port, and more akin to seymour's appearance than full-blooded guado. considering their ties to the afterlife, i can definitely see ways they could be implemented into ffxiv's lore and culture rather comfortably, perhaps hailing from a far-off land garlemald has already conquered.

    - the aegyl of ff12: rw, if they wanted to add a bird-like race. the wings would be a problem, however-- i doubt they would stay, especially considering how much that might break lore. but if they were to turn to ff12 for more inspiration on what kind of player races to include along with viera, the aegyl make the most sense to me.

honestly though, i think they'll come up with something new, more than likely. i suspect either something to complement the likes of elezens and roes, or another animal-like race. i wouldn't be surprised if they did stick to only vieras, but if they are including a second race as well, then i doubt it'll be animal-like to balance out the fact that vieras are bunny folk.

sorry for all my rambling, i just thought i'd drop this here, lol. :P

(edit: also thought i would mention that although my main character doesn't reflect it, i've played through heavensward and know some of the spoilers of stormblood. so that there's no confusion!)

Warcraft has dwarves and gnomes. I feel like gnomes are comparable to lalafell, and gnomes don't feel like carbon copies of dwarves.
