Returning after years, a few questions

I have started playing again after years. Played this and WoW and the other game was just where all my friends were so I played it to do things with them. Lately I have grown tired of what could be considered a toxic community and moved back to Final Fantasy. The community was so bad in WoW I am hesitant to post here due to the answers I would be used to getting there if I posted for help, but it was always more helpful here and hopefully it still is.
Is there a good place to go for guides on the classes to help get back into the classes? I have created this new character to learn it from the beginning but do have another with several jobs already leveled but I can’t remember how to play them since it’s been so long and being used to the super simple WoW rotations where you can basically roll your face across the keyboard and do decently well.
Are there any good free companies on my world taking new folks? Is there a place to go to check? I am currently stationed overseas so my time is not perfectly synced with US time and it is sort of dead when I am on or I would just ask in general in game.
That’s enough to start. Thank you for any suggestions and advice.

Guides are all over google and youtube, just search what you're looking for.
There's guides that are overly explanitive, and others that are to the point. Videos, text, pictures, all available. What suits your learning style is on you.

Zalera's forum is here. Though there's also Novice Network in the game which can help you with most things, full of Zaleran mentors and other novices/returners alike.

Welcome back! Yeah, there isn't exactly a centralized place to find good guides on every job that I'm aware of, but I also tend to just Google them. You could also look up the Balance Discord server, as they have several people who can give great pointers on how to get the most out of any job. Barring that, you may also find some threads on the forums here under the Classes and Jobs section under each role. Hopefully between those resources you can find something that works for you.

As for FCs and such, I second Canadane's advice, and would also add looking into potential social media groups that may be out there for Zalera. I know Adamantoise here has a Facebook group and a Discord server at least, so it's certainly plausible Zalera would have similar groups. Best of luck!

New characters was a certainly good idea to re-learn the way this game flows, but honestly it was probly unnecessary. Re-learning your old classes shouldnt be that hard. First take some time to read your ability and trait descriptions(pretend youre reading everything for the first time, because theyve done some serious rebalancing over the years and some things might not work like they used to anyway). If youre a melee look at how your combos fit together, if youre a ranged look at which abilities proc or boost which other ones. This is a good place to look for a general guide to see what the consensus is on how it all works. Then you can use level-synced content to re-fit everything together. Run a few synced fates(chocobo companion can help) in a level range, then maybe a boss fate or two in the same range, then a dungeon or two(the idea being that you increase complexity as you get comfortable - from spamming attacks at weak enemies to working over a single tough enemy to doing a group session where everything interconnects). At that point if youre comfortable with where youre at, increase to a higher level range(go up 5-10 levels) and do it again(again increasing complexity at your own pace). Somewhere in this process is where a more in depth guide can clear up any lingering misconceptions.

Of course, if youre one of those people who can just read a guide and have everything click without having to "do" any of it, then just do that. Regardless, welcome back and i hope you enjoy your stay!

There are basic job guides on the Lodestone that give you information about what your skills do; some jobs (like tanks and melee) have the basic combos that you will use as your staple rotation mapped out in the descriptions.

Again, though; those guides are very basic. They do give you descriptions of your Job Gauge, which is new to Stormblood. All jobs have them, so it would be handy to have on-hand for a brief, introductory guide to how they work.

If you are looking for specific job advice, a lot of guides may be for level 70, but can still be useful. If your main job you will be playing as is BRD, I don’t mind answering any questions that you may have about the job, as it’s my main and I feel like I’m fairly decent at it.

As for FCs, I am not on Zalera and cannot speak for what FCs are recruiting, but you could always check the Zalera world subforum here, or post an advertisement there saying you’re looking for an FC that can meet your needs. This can also work using the Party Finder in-game.

    Welcome back!
