A Suggestion on how to allow Head Gear and Glasses

I've seen item-modders do this and thought it was a good idea that the dev team could try out: Put glasses in the Earring Slot.

What item-modders have been doing is replacing the model of earrings with glasses models (some in-game, some from other sources).

The only two cruxes to this would be:
    1) They would either have to make these earring-glasses dyeable OR make multiple versions in different colors, like how they do with the flower items. I personally prefer the former to the later.

    2) People wouldn't be able to equip glasses and earrings then if they're in the same slot (unless the item has both).

I would love if they did this, I've suggested it in the past and it's a been a popular concept. Hopefully we can get a dev to post on this.

I think it might be better if they find a way of making the Belt category in to something else so that it covers more than just Belts but also allows future items in that area to have Glamour as well. So essentially Belts have no glam so that would never change, but Glasses, other eyewear or even pouches/bags etc could be glamoured on to the Belt gear giving you the appearance you want without losing any current glam options such as Earrings. I just feel the Belt gear is a wasted glam opportunity at the moment...

I agree on the belt slot being wasted - I’d particularly like it to hold skirts and sashes rather than belts, separate to pants so we could mix shirt/skirt/pants layers more freely. Though I doubt they would go back to rewrite the system and change it for older gear now.

Currently some skirts are attached to shirt items and some attached to pants and if you’re mixing sets you might be left with neither, or not the one you wanted.

Also it would solve my long-running frustration with the lack of skirts-with-pants-underneath for female characters. (Or keep the current system and add tights as a belt-slot glamour item. Please?)

But yes, it could definitely become an all-purpose glamour slot - though it may be that the problem lies in the labelling of it, and the resulting oddness of the slot holding a mix of invisible belts and miscellaneous items. What do you call it? Is it still the “belt” slot despite having non-belts? Is it the “additional item” slot and new people wonder why so much of it is invisible belts?

Originally, in 1.x, belts did show up on your character's outfit. The ARR dev team removed them because they said it was too difficult to design interesting body and pant pieces while having to worry about how belts would look/work with them.

Perhaps the issue was making it a “belt” slot rather than a “waist” slot then? They’ve continued to design items that include a waist piece, including tops with a large skirt or sash permanently attached, and pants with built-in sashes that vanish when another item is layered over it (sometimes even its own matching top). I’d just like more control over those elements. Maybe there’d be clipping issues with some things, but I wish they’d let us make our own decisions about that more often. or give us a “turn off collar” button for coats.

If they were limited to designing actual belts for every set, I can see how that would be hard.

Interesting suggestion. But I think there are still constrictions in place that make this a difficult change. I believe the way our avatars are designed is it is divided up into the same amount of sections as we have slots for gear with the exception of the waist. So each slot is assigned to a particular section on the avatar's person. The programming of the sections are constants that have variables/values assigned to them in order to provide for its function (show the gear we equip). The constant very likely only accepts one value, and trying to assign multiple will cause a run-time error.

So in order to prevent going back and changing structural coding, which can be a debugging nightmare, it would actually be easier for the dev team to implement an additional slot that only functions to display eyewear and change any current headgear that qualifies to a category of the same name. They would also have to add an additional section to the avatar, but this is loads easier than having to change the programming for all the others.

This would actually be pretty easy for them to add to the game. I think the issue with this is that with new gear designs, they will have to take an additional section of the avatar into account when doing so. But they already ignore the living schite out of clipping, soooo......

I'd rather not lose something to gain something else. SE should just create a cosmetic slot for the face so you can equip glasses, goggles, etc.

Yeah, I do realise (unfortunately) that it's unlikely they will apply it at this point, which would involve so much going back and changing things. But it would have been great if they'd made that design choice at the start.

For a popular example: the Thavnairian sets. Imagine if we had the "Thavnairian skirt" and "Thavnairian sash" as separate items to the bustier/bolero! Same designs, and the skirt has to be compatible with all equippable pants either way, but splitting them up would give lots more potential for mixing and matching with other gear.

And yes, there seems to be the issue of things belonging rigidly to one category (Head, Body, Earrings, etc.), and not being able to be glamoured onto a different category - I think this is also the base issue of why we can't glamour one-handed mage wands onto two-handed staffs, because they're categorised as different items. Allowing the Belt or Earrings or hypothetical 'Additional Glamour' slot to carry existing glasses would mean changing or duplicating everything currently categorised as headwear.

Again it would be nice if they could unlock that and trust us to use it wisely, but I suspect that it would be an all-or-nothing affair, and they can't do so without also giving people the ability to glamour one weapon type onto another. Thus, everything has to remain locked.

What if they just repurposed the off hand slot into a glamour slot? All shields would need to have their stats added to the matching swords but then we could have it as a mostly open slot for glamour items including the old shields
