So why do we have to craft an expensive item for a CHANCE at a drop in Eureka Pagos?

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, there's a NM in Eureka Pagos that looks like the level 50 hunt, Melt. It's name is Hakutaku.

You only get silver when fighting him, unless you use a special crafted item. Then you can get gold. But you have to rely on RNG to get the SPECIAL UNTRADABLE HELMET FROM IT.

The item is the Optical Hat.
    373 Defence/Magic Defence
    All classes Lv. 70
    Eureka Effect:
    Str/Dex/Int/Mind/Vit all +125
Haste -3 (This reduces cooldowns by .06, so if you have all 3 special items, you get -0.18 from your globals while in Eureka only)

Cassie Earring? From the NM Cassie, a giant morbol. Only one gets it per attempt, if they're level 34+. It's the only one of the items that's tradable.

Speed Belt? From King artho, a Crab Fate. It has terrible RNG too, apparently tradable?

But back to the Optical Hat. Before you can hope to get a chance on getting this item, first you have to do the special level 23 and 31 Rabbit Elemental Conflicts. If you complete it, you get a rabbit that follows you around, and you get to play a game of hot/cold basically to find out where hidden loot is.

There's three chest types, where once again bronze is worst, gold is best. You have to hope for the terrible RNG to give you gold. Then you have to hope to get one of the FIVE eyes from this. That's right, five.

Did I mention that there can only be a certain number of rabbits up at once? Too many people means some people who might have been there longer might not get the rabbit to spawn, anyways...

You need one of every one of these five eyes to craft the item to get gold rank against Hakutaku. Apparently a 100% chance of getting it if crafted item used. Which is consumed upon use.
The prices of the five eyes on Cerberus?

Four of them are worth 20m-50m each. With one of them worth next to nothing. Right now to buy one of each of the five would cost about 149m on my server. This is all to craft an item for a chance at another item.

Why is it two of them just have terrible RNG for the item to drop, but this one has to be the special snowflake, and demand a seven layer RNG sandwich?

That's tame compared to what they pulled in Diadem. Each instance could RNG spawn a giant instance fate that pretty much needed everyone in it to be coordinated to be able to complete it. At the end of the fate that failed most times, 1 person in the instance would receive a weapon that was 5 levels higher than the best raid weapon at the time. That weapon would be for a random class and would have random stats on it. 1 person in the whole instance of hundreds. And odds that it would be for their main class, with decent stats on it were like the 7th layer of RNG.

Either way, I really hope that SE gets it through their heads that instance designed around grinding against RNG are not fun.

They have that same thing for Cassie. Only one person at the NM can actually get the earring at a time as far as I'm aware. But you have to be level 34/35 to have a chance to get it, otherwise you can't get anything but EXP. Except this time it's up to a maximum of 144 players in this chance, so they've learned nothing from the diadumb.

The optical hat is 100% if you have the Hakutaku cluster, there is a special message and everything when you get gold in the fate and then the hat replaces the cluster in your inventory. Also the lvl 31 bunny fate has a very higher upper limit on the number of bunnies that pop, we've done it with 35 and all got bunnies. However, the lower lvl one has a much lower upper cap to bunnies. I'm not arguing that pagos has a lot of RNG(cassie is alot of BS) and its not always a good thing, but just correcting the false information.

    1) A fundamental misunderstanding about what people like(d) about FFXI.
    2) A stubborn refusal to acknowledge that FFXI only worked because gear had a tendency to last years, not weeks/days.
    3) An outright stupid insistence on trying to play the nostalgia card.

So basically, instead of listening to the players asking for deeper gear customization with unique stat effects in endgame gear like raid gear and other PvE gear, they put it in Eureka, the most hated content to date...

I do think they are playing too much into the whole FFXI thing also, however if the eureka gear will last us to the next expansion it will be the longest lasting gear in ff14

    This exactly.

FFXI had...amoung several other elements... a fundamental understanding for one's time and efforts thus the time sink had a purpose.

You're not wrong. Is the nostalgia gear actually BiS inside Eureka, though? I never really bothered paying much attention when leveling my alt through to EL20, and Darrc here is only EL7 and I can't say I much care to go check if stats matter. If they do, no substat and -12 or so mainstat would be ridiculously hard to overcome.

Honestly, the ship on that finished sailing when they removed accuracy as a controlled stat.

But yes, they did. Just like Diadem experimented with trying to bring back Aetherial/random augment gear.

Haste being negative should make you slower, not faster. "Slow +3" should be the same as "Haste -3". The word haste is a synonym for speed, so why would negative haste and positive skill/spell speed both make you faster? Hopefully the gear is just so absurdly rare that nobody who can do the math has gotten it and it actually does make you slower. Otherwise I'm going to have to be angry about this forever.
