Am I crazy, or did the Fat Chocobo mount used to fly?

I have the white Fat Chocobo mount. I was using it out in the Ruby Sea (I have flying unlocked everywhere) and to my complete surprise, it didn't fly!

I could swear with 100% certainty that it used to. In fact I specifically remember that instead of your fishing pole with the Gysahl green on it, you had a fishing pole with a slice of cake.

What happened?

It does fly, you're doing something wrong. Are you sure you unlocked flying in Ruby Sea?

IDK about the white fatty but the yellow one works just as you describe.

I just confirmed that both the Fat Chocobo and Original Fat Chocobo both fly in the Ruby Sea, I even took screenshots (taken half an hour ago):




And yes they do have a slice of cake dangled in front of them on a pole instead of a bushel of gysahl greens when flying.

So I have no idea what you are doing wrong, are you pressing the wrong key to 'take off'?

In order for all the chocobos (other than the black chocobo) to fly in any zone that allows flight, you need to complete the quest I Believe I can Fly. Weird, I know, but until your company bird learns how to fly, your draught and fat birds can't either.

OH! I bet that's what it was. I was on a different character and even though I had flying unlocked on it, I guess I didn't do that sub quest. THANK YOU!

I am confused at not being able to find some maps like The Red Ruby Sea anywhere on all my maps I have available. Will this come up later in time for me?

You may not be using the correct type of cake. Dangle chocolate cake and anything can fly.

At the beginning of Stormblood there are a number of maps that simply won't be accessible due to Story gates that keep you from accessing them- very much the same way you did not have access to Idyllshire until certain story events lead you there, you'll have access to Ruby Sea around the same time you get access to Kugane; if i am not mistaken- if i am please someone throw some cake at me.
