It's becoming alarming how much people want to dumb this game down and complain about every change and aspect.

    - People complain of nerfs like its an unheard of concept
    - Server mergers - its been my experience that if game developers want to change something they do. you ethier continue to play or you leave.
    - The price of items.. I mean really? Its an free market economy. The mats are out there... get off your ass and level a craft.

Making ammo infinite and keeping ARC as a decent DD isn't impossible- as it stands, ARC is going to take on a greater support role with the addition of BRD, so they're in a pretty great position. If nothing else, roll the damage of onion arrows into bows and keep them as an infinite resource, and have the ability equip cobalt for extra damage.

There are other ways to incorporate the RP feel of having higher lvl arrows at your disposal that some players seem to desperately need, perhaps adding in different equipable and upgradable quivers, to the same dice as casters and gladiators being able to equip a shield.

I highly doubt Archer's DPS will reign supreme once 1.21 hits, with Archer becoming a support class. And where then is your argument that we should be forced to pay for arrows (which carpenters are taking a hit to craft on most servers) because our dps is so high?
But all of this is basically the best design-and-balance answer. I don't believe that ARC's damage will go down at all to be honest, they just wouldn't gain any new combos. MRD/LNC/THM will go up and PGL will get some new tricks, but everything else will stay relatively the same-- which means that ARC's positioning and comboability is still something good.

Infinite arrows definatley I don't think is a good answer. If you think about it, other jobs should be using their ranged slot too. Such as chakrams, throwing spears, axes, and throwing daggers. They are a nice source of building TP, and I definatley use them.

The only one that would make sense to be unlimited to me would be the chakram since in my mind it should be like a boomerang and come back to me

Maybe they could have the possibility of letting you "collect" a portion of some of the arrows you shot at the enemy after its defeated. Like, if you shot 50 arrows at the mob, you may get 10 back in loot list after you kill it. Or something

I have 23 "cobalt arrow quivers" and 0 cobalt arrows.
I use 2 cobalt arrow quivers from the Use Item menu.
I now have 21 cobalt arrow quivers and two stacks of 999 cobalt arrows.

This immediately solved pretty much all of the ammo inventory issues in FFXI.
As much as I like OP's suggestion, I think this ^^ is the way to go.

Eh, if arrows just didn't take up main inventory slots, it'd be fine. Move them to the same type of tab as Seals and Crystals. then at least you still have to have them, but aren't encumbered by them. A quiver page, if you will.

Paying for arrows doesn't really bother me, but at this point it is a rather archaic mechanic. If they were to make them infinite I'd like to see it done this way:

-Remove the bonus damage from the arrows, making all the archer physical dmg based purely on weapon dmg.
-Make level appropriate infinite arrows/quiver with +acc/+atk or pie/dex stats similar to how rings are.
-Allow Carpenters to make an elemental arrow/quivers that would convert their dmg type to another. Ex: Basic arrows deal projectile dmg. Quivers of fire/ice/thunder/aero/earth and maybe also a peircing, the trade off would be that there would be no bonus stats.
-Maybe make archers have a ranged auto attack if their dmg drops off too much from not having the bonus dmg on arrows.

It doesn't matter if you are a Botanist, Miner, and Armorer; every material that you use to make arrows is one that you don't sell on the AH. The cost is what it is.
