Yes, that's how it works. The retainer is included in the app subscription, you just have to go through the step of hiring it in-game.

when are they ever adding the feature of resending all my damn retainers with just one button??........... makes me want to unsubscribe having to resend 10 retainers one by one ...... -_-;
