That's all when and good, but you're only giving them because doing so makes you feel good.

Self-gratification is still only feeling good about yourself.

I believe the English mentions that you should give commendations to someone who “made a lasting impression”. So it can basically be for any reason—glamour, name, humor, etc.. It doesn’t have to tie directly to performance.

So I should be commending the player who made me want to tear my hair out the entire run.
