Controller - struggling with targeting

Can you elaborate what target settings I need for this to work?

Also, I have never used macros in FFXIV and am playing on PS4 - will it still work?

Yes, macros do work on the PS4.

You don't need any special target settings, this should work anytime. I have the target filter to "all", however, R2 + L1 / L2 + R1 only targets enemys and up and down on the D-Pad only targets party members.

Maybe you can remap the R3 button to "target's target" in the System Configuration -> Controller -> the Config button top right. Then you switch to your target's target whenever you push the rigtht stick down (very helpfull as a healer).
