Quick explanation of Pagos? Been out of the loop for a bit

Good morning. So, given the amount of threads about Pagos, I am assuming that I should be expecting it to be worse than Anemos. But there's too many threads, so wanted to just ask flat out how it is as of this week. I've been out of the loop for a bit - Pagos wasn't available when I was still playing regularly. I stopped at level 19 on Anemos on my alt, and now I'm working my way through Anemos (currently level 8).

Can somebody just give me a quick rundown of Pagos, so I don't have to check a dozen different threads on it? Is it worth getting into Pagos? I noticed they added a challenge log for Eureka, so thanks to that, I was able to solo level up to 8 in a single lockout. Thanks in advance.

Pagos is worse than Anemos in multiple ways.

The map is harder to navigate, due to the geography and sleeping dragons. Unlike Anemos you can't always see where to go for some things just by looking at the map. The dragons will kill you unless you walk past, which makes it hard to get to NMs before an early pull. And you don't get your mount back until 35.

The relic requires building a ton of light, you get light from killing mobs sometimes, and according to Yoshi we still haven't figured out the right way to do it after a month of Pagos.

The lockboxes are worse then Anemos. You get less of them and the regular ones are all crap, only the rare "cold-warped" ones that randomly drop from certain mobs contain anything worthwhile, but even for those it's like 90% chance you just get materia.


With the one hotfix they did to EXP, leveling up isn't as terrible as it was when most of the angry Pagos threads started. The actual hard part will be finding a group around your level, and you might end up spending more time in party finder than in Pagos. You might be better off leveling up to 25 in Anemos, I'm not sure, but at 25 you can do the quest to start getting light in Pagos for the relic and you'll want as much light as you can get.

I've had some difficulty getting a group for leveling in Anemos, and then I accidentally stumbled upon the challenge log. I do want the relic, but Pagos sounds like an even greater time sink than Anemos. This light farming sounds like a pain, if a month has passed and Yoshi is saying players haven't figured out the right way. I still have 4.3 to get through, so maybe I'll do it after. Sounds like I'd be wasting my time under 25 anyhow.

It's really not that bad for one relic... and yes it's work. Challenge logs help a lot and if you can join a group at your level to do them early in the week is probably the best approach. There are 3 aether's. One is level 21, another is 30 and the last 32 so getting around is much harder than it was in anemos where you could attune to all the aethers at level 9. Also there are multiple levels in Pagos with cliffs and so on where you really have to take the long way around to get to an NM. It's a dangerous place to navigate more so than Anemos was in my opinion.

You need: 500 Pagos Crystals, 5 Louchi ice (get two per encounter) and 31 frosted crystals for a full relic. The frosted crystals are the hardest to get because you basically need to kill mobs by chaining (the most efficient) and nm's to gather it. Anemos made getting multiple relics easy, that isn't the case in pagos. In Anemos by the time you hit 20 you had enough crystals and feathers for multiple relics. In Pagos when you hit 35 you'll still need to farm light in order to finish your relic.

I'm working on my second atm and am waiting to see if they nerf light like they did with nm experience in a recent patch which made the train viable again in Pagos. My suspicion is they will make it easier to gather light but keep the number of crystals needed for a full relic the same. They said they are considering adjusting the relic process again so we'll have to see what that means.

this is a good write up, thank you. I havent dove neck-deep into Pagos yet as I'm waiting for everyone to figure out the most efficient way of doing things. I've only been completing my challenge log each week and leaving. I really miss the Anemos train and my mount.

I’m not expecting any more adjustments until patch 4.45 when the next zone arrives in November.

Its not that bad if you started on day 1.

With Pagos the problem is you get the mount at lvl35. Since most people are now lvl35 or close to lvl35 it may be hard for you to find a group to start. And unlike Anemos there are more teleport crystals so people just teleport and mount to get there unlike anemos where there were only 2 teleports( not including home base).

Your best bet is finding a low level group in pf or stay in anemos until you are lvl23.

I do hope that adjustments are made, if that is the case. I don't mind time sinks sometimes, but Pagos sounds like a venture that I would be better off skipping for now.
