    new player and enjoying FFXIV

I just started playing FFXIV last night, and so far i'm level 16, and I have to say; I am really enjoying this game! I did try it out during its open beta test phase, and the game was dreadfully bad. After reading a lot of comments though about how much XIV has improved, and seeing how cheap it is now on Amazon.com, I decided to give it a try.

I really like the old school feel of the game, while at the same time it has a few modern day MMO features that make it more accessible, and the leveling grind is not that bad. Although i've been told to expect it to get much harder later on.

I've played everything in the MMO genre, from Ultima Online, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Asherons Call, to World of Warcraft, and what the game has become today, Star Wars:the Old Republic, Lord of the Rings Online, and Rift. So i've seen my fair share of both hardcore and casual friendly MMOs. I feel like FFXIV strikes a really good middle ground.

The grind will get worse, of course... but it never really gets 'bad' in this game unless you're crafting. But that's more to do with the fact that the crafting system gets pretty boring after pouring that many hours into it rather than the length of time being awful.

[though for a crafting system (which is generally a side thing) it is kinda bad]

i wouldn't judge the game too much until next patch which will really decide how this game goes until 2.0. ability revamp was nice but jobs will define party play and server merges will determine new populations.

edit: lots of content in the game, unfortunately only like 1/8 of it is worth doing

Well, I don't know that I'd use lots to describe the amount of content but yes... only a small portion of what's there is worth doing at the moment and Yoshi-P did address that fact recently. Fortunately they'll be looking at revamping a lot of the existing 'useless' content.

However, I do agree that it is worth noting since it is still true that at this very moment... very little of the content that exists has value to most players.

By "lots of content", I'm sure he doesn't mean just endgame content. There's an overwhelming number of quests at lower levels, as noted by many new players in my linkshell.

This person is saying something positive, why do you guys have to burst their bubble by QQing?

You must be very new to MMOs if you're saying XIV has 'lots of content' by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not new to the MMO world at all. Regardless, what I said was the viewpoint of other new players. Their words were literally "There's too much to do." So... yeah.

It does have. For people that have a life outside, it's pretty reasonable. For lifeless souls, of course the game won't ever have enough cOntent. Same goes for alcoholics or drug addicts. Never enough booze or dough.
