    Celebrating a 1.0 Rising

So earlier today, after doing the Rising event combat thing, I started thinking... This is supposed to be like the Dalamud invasions at the end of 1.0, right? We have some of the same gear from 1.0, re-statted for this engine of course, and we know the event syncs to iLv110...

I started digging for information about what kind of gear existed in 1.0 during the final days. The information isn't easy to dig up and I'm having trouble translating effective stats/item levels so I decided to seek the help of any remaining 1.0 players. If I wanted to gear myself to the equivalent of 1.0 finale gear what would I wear? Would that work when the mobs are built for iLv110 players? If not then what would you suggest?

This is all just for fun, the event is a zerg rush so gear doesn't matter much, but I'd appreciate any help!

You would wear Darksteel since that was the Crafted Armor at the time, Darklight since that was what dropped from Aurum Vale/Cutter's Cry or AF1. I think the highest iLvl we had near the end was Darksteel and Darklight armor overall.

Those of us who didn't gear up to the max were rocking our AF gear at the very end.

Was totally going to glamour my Augmented (so dyeable) AF gear over whatever I ended up with xD

Did relic weapons exist at all in 1.0?

Yeah, I don't remember all their names but I had the Artemis Bow. Once they stopped saving server data you could actually find them under your inn room bed, lol.

Base relic did in fact exist in 1.0 in it's final months - in fact after the final save maintenance they started giving away free relics randomly by 'checking the bed' in the Inn Room if you logged out there and then logged back in. But as others have said, apart from relic/AF, Darklight and Darksteel gear the only other gear available was generic crafted/vendor gear. And it was frustrating trying to find the right vendor who sold such gear as vendors seemed to sell wildly random gear with no connection to that area's level, and it was never complete sets either. To say nothing of how ridiculous the Market Wards were.

ARR players don't know how good they have it.

So I've found out that Skill Speed and Spell Speed didn't exist in Legacy FFXIV. Players could have abilities and spells (like Greased Lightning and Haste) which sped them up but there were no stats or sub-stats which did so. I've also been told that a much lower number of actions per minute and longer GCD were distinct elements of Legacy combat. Avoiding them means having to use lower Lv/iLv equipment when I'm already working with an absolute limit of iLv70.

Would it be considered more "authentic" to completely avoid Skill Speed and Spell Speed, to accept any incidental amounts while prioritizing iLv, or to just ignore that quirk of Legacy completely and stack them as much as I want?

Darklight gear (ilvl70?) was the strongest gear available in 1.0. That and your relic weapon. That is the base relic you first obtain before any upgrade quests.

GCD did not exist. It used standard cool downs found in old mmos (FFXI is an example) but with short cool downs for most skills and longer ones for others. You had to build TP by auto attacking and then using a skill. Combos weren't added until Yoshida took over so up to you to decide how to use that mechanic. Skill Speed/Spell Speed doesn't matter because we didn't use a GCD.

Edit: Additonal video without the combo system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voHqf1cZIFU
I suggest turning off sound for this one unless you like that kind of music.

I finished my outfit last night! I decided to go with all crafted, so Vanya with Astral and Rose Gold, plus the base Stardust Rod! Gathered the materials, crafted it up, even checked which dyes existed in Legacy/1.0 so I didn't go off concept. I melded various IV materia into the free slots on the gear.

    ...And then I went crazy.

I mean... I never did crafted gear in ARR. I had my gathering built up but I didn't have the crafting classes levelled and geared. I also had no gil. So I sat for a moment, marvelling at this crafted gear I'd never worn, and thought, "Man, I remember when people would penta-meld this stuff. Materia was so expensive then but now it's cheap and easy to spiritbond. ...What the hell, let's do this." Thus began my day-long quest to penta-meld iLv 70 gear from ARR to be worn by a SB Lv70 Black Mage doing an adaptation of the events ending Legacy/1.x. Trippy.

So now I stand in Ul'dah, all decked out and melded, getting strange looks -- as I wait for the damned Rising Recruiter to respawn. *heavy sigh*
