That is the truth of it all, friend. Very true... and its one of the reasons why I didn't come to the forums for several extended periods of time. Sometimes, it was just so clogged with toxicity, it was beyond ridiculous. Funny enough, I saw the seed beginnings of that toxicity as far back as the 2.0 Alpha test forums.
By the way, here are a few more I randomly picked images from my files:
Foundation Day event and the insane amount of deaspected crystals received from fighting Atomos.
And that would be the horde of players racing to clobber the poor creature...
White mages galore... at one point in 1.0, healers were actually quite common...would you believe it?
This is how we celebrated after beating every wave that the GMs kept throwing at us during the orginal Calamity battle... those images are actually with fond memories because I tanked for over a couple hours that day and people just kept cure-bombing me like mad. And every time we rested inbetween waves, lots of fireworks to commemorate our victory.
Yeah... great fun and it was humbling to see soooooo many people really come together in unity. We kept fighting as if we we played hard enough, we could save the game
Plus we got to ride our mounts in town, which is how we were able to form the Gobbue walls inside Ul'Dah as well.
...And this is how it looked when things went south and very sour:
Our victory image after the first time we beat Nael on normal mode... I actually went as healer (which, back then, was the job class I enjoyed playing the most whenever I went into end game stuff). We also had one of the fastest completion times out there and I believe the video is on you-tube somewhere.
Fooling around having fun with some friends during the very last Xmas event on 1.0
This was one of the closest we could get to ishgard back then... the gates and then a broken down bridge somehere in Coerthas
By the way, Coethas back then didn't have snow... and it was quite scenic. Very engaging zone and it felt ancient as well.
And while in Coethas, this was one of the places you could level to 50 in the game (chaining mobs and wolves within the Ixal camp)
