The Eorzean city states aren't perfect, and the empire isn't 100% evil. But the Eorzeans also haven't say, tried to drop a moon on the empire. And when someone DID try to use a primal against them (Shinryu) it was us that cleaned it up. There are good people in the empire but they're definitely still the 'bad guys' in terms of international politics.

opens the door on explaing why Varis, despite taking the throne and having a ruthless reputation, hasn't been gunning for Eorzea. I'm not saying he is a kitten, but it really throws into question how true is the whole "megalomania" schtick. Since that flies into the face of the both the ascians' designs for the country and his current actions regarding Eorzea. Yet there is some truth to Zelidibus's words: If he does nothing, then his empire is at risk from two fronts, the internal rebellions that threaten to crack the empire, and his 'benefactors' having a direct line to the throne to take charge personally...

The plan to root out Eldibus:

Something is amiss with Thancred's plan, and MAYBE this is why he was yoinked by the voice...the Eorzeans want to foster a 2nd war of succession while killing Elidibus...but Elidibus is the crown prince and they are acting on this suspicion...wouldn't a war of succession only start if the Emperor AND the Prince was assassinated?

The true villains of the story:

I think we can all agree that Red and Blue , those two guys in the throne room, are definitely in on the game and are lip service loyalty to varis. Doesn't matter what faction you root for, them doing nothing throughout all that feels like they are either magitek creations, props, or legit the poorest guards on Hydaelyn.
