You will be able to make your own ui when addons are allowed. I'm sure someone will come up with a FF11 interface

Not that this actually helps Consol users though.

just because a lot of people seems to have missed, they plan to release a service where ps3 users can download the most popular addons.

I can't see how a menu-based skill library would be easier to use than this, which is literally just scrolling through three lines of ten icons... But I do loves me the traditional RPG menu and would not mind it.

The main reason it would help is b/c there's no practical way to figure out what you're looking at. I don't want to have to memorize pictures and icon designs. I don't want to rely on some black paragraph pop-up with .5 font to tell me what i'm scrolling past.

It feels like some primitive matching game. "K, green w/ an axe = big boom;" "Blue w/ a fist = heal;" "Yellow w/ a sword = me take hits long time," and so on... It's ridiculous.

And again, why does it have to be either/or? You said yourself, like so many other people did...Who doesn't like traditional FF RPG menu? It's win-win!

Hey, I'm not against it. I was just wondering, as it seems our current system would be the quicker one.

Well, I hate to "beat a dead horse" or w/e that hick saying is..but! FFXI had a pretty flawless battle system for consol players. The macro system was set up really, REALLY, well; and they were able to keep the traditional FF menu display, which went a long way in capturing my interest.

I think it's safe to say that a pretty strong majority of the complaints out there are based from comparisons to FFXI. So, why not, at LEAST, try to appease both crowds? -Modern MMO players, AND "traditionalists" who usually favor XI > XIV.

yea.... for the 300k people that played FFXI regularly....
Nevermind the 20 million RPG and MMO gamers who didn't

or the 6 million gamers that bought FFXIII

I do love a good menu based RPG.... I do....
But menu based battle just isn't conducive to real time fights
It works offline because you can stop the action at any time to input commands
or you can speed up or slow down battle to suit your tastes

FFXI had some great qualities.... More NM's and content than 4 offline RPGs put together.... Diverse content... long term goals....

the battle system though... is not one of it's selling points... period
In fact... Macro heavy battles are part of the reason FFXI wasn't the hit it could have been.
That type of battle turned A LOT of people off....
You can say "SE should please the FFXI crowd" but for every ex-FFXI player, there are 10 RPG gamers that SE wants to appeal to, and Menu based, macro heavy combat wont do it

Even FFXI enthusiast look back on gear change macros in battle with such disdain that even suggesting it in FFXIV would incite a riot

Lastly... on a personal note.... battle macros leave me feeling disconnected from battle.
Gone are the days when you "issue commands" to your character....
Now.. You ARE your character... down to every swing of the sword or spell you use
Menu based combat is as far inside the box as you can get....
Challenge your brain to think outside it

It absolutely toggles... There is a menu option that says... are you ready for this... "Toggle Macro Bar" under Configuration>system

    You're Welcome

The classic FF menu was working in FFXI because it was dead slow, it would be impossible to handle the current battles with a menu like that, unless you do a macro for every single action you have (which would be stupid).

Current UI is clunky, but still better than XI one for this game.

In other MMOs with macro abilities you macro pretty much everything...don't think anyone there considers it stupid. By the way, every other MMO also has a lot of menus and pop up type menus for things..so I really don't see how it's "clunky" or any of the sort, other than personal distaste for it of course.
