I have the tattoo on all the time, and it's only ever visible on two-piece gear really.

The nice thing about FFXIV gear, is that very little of it is ugly. The tattoo however, kinda is, and I can't believe some people actually got it as actual tattoos. The thing is, unless you started on a legacy server, you'd never see anyone with it anyway unless they explicitly migrated off the legacy server to a non-legacy server.

So on Primal that's Excalibur and Hyperion. On Aether that's Balmung and Sargatanas, etc. These servers also still have login queues on patch days. Though gone are the days of 1000+ in the queue.

At any rate, no there's no point to the tattoo, and unlike every other gear item in the game, it's something that you can't accidently destroy or throw away.

Now what SE could do, is come up with another tattoo that works in conjunction with the original legacy tattoo, and without the legacy tattoo it actually looks different. So for each version of the game you "survived" , eg 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, you get a new part to the tattoo.

In a sense, you can have a tattoo representing when you started that character, with the legacy tattoo. Thus players who started in 3.0, only get the 3.0 part and 4.0 part, and players who only started since 4.0 get the 4.0 part.

And players can just turn off parts of the tattoo they don't like, or all of it.
