Yes they can do it by law, but a company that wants to be successful and make money shouldn't make a habit of lying to customers.Honestly, how about we just add more tattoos towards the customization in general? Seriously, why can't we have more tribal looking tattoos aside from the cutesy stuff we can stick on our character's faces like hearts and stars...
People really need to stop taking and hanging onto every word from companies as some word of law or word of God. They don't owe you to be nice, they're not your best friends, they're a business at the end of the day. And by law, they can change their policies at the drop of a hat whether you like it or not without prior warning or compensation. Please, stop taking everything a company says at face value. It'll save you a lot of regret and anger in the end. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it's unfair. But...that's how capitalism works.

And that is the downside of misleading your customers through whatever form it takes. Communication is the key in managing change, and this team and even this company, sucks at it.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

They didn't necessarily lie to you though? They've kept them as exclusives for over five years and quite frankly, there was no statue of limitations involved or a contract signed stating that they couldn't change it, so they could have ended your exclusive rights to those earrings even sooner than over five years.
The company is successful and making money. You not liking one practice that they've done doesn't outright change that though. This type of thing isn't going to make or break their bank accounts no matter what.
People hate Final Fantasy XV with a passion and say it's the worst game in the series. But, unfortunately for them? It at least made them break even in sales and didn't destroy the company entirely as many had exaggerated.
Now, Spirits Within and 1.0.....ehehehe...
If there's a way to make money, a company will make money whether you think it's unfair or not, or don't like it or not.

It a lie when you tell your player base that these items are exclusive to those who endured the painfulness of 1.0. If not for us, this game wouldn't be here today and it wouldn't be SE little cash cow. A cash cow may I remind you that is still a broken. Yeah sure, why have ANY respect for the people who stayed right up to the end. They didn't necessarily lie to you though? Contract or no contract, you don't go telling a paying customer that something is exclusive to them and then some years later give it to everyone. That poor business no matter how you look at it.
And you may think, "Oh it not going to break the bank." and this one won't, but it just another thing that being pile on top of what already wrong/bad with this game and SE as company. One day, it will catch up to them.

Actually, if not for Yoshi-P, XIV wouldn't have had the makeover that it did, to be fair. The 1.0 players were the beta testers, unfortunately. But, ultimately? He was the one who actually turned XIV into something profitable, not the 1.0 players themselves essentially. They could have hired anyone besides Yoshi-P even with the 1.0 players and that director could have burned it further into the ground. The game is here because Yoshi-P took something terrible that he already knew was terrible from the last director, 1.0 players or not. No offense. Aside from the 1.0 players, we have ARR, HW, and SB players still funneling this game alive. It's not just about you guys. Actually, that's normal business practice. Every company besides SE will lie to their customer base in some form or way.Contract or no contract, you don't go telling a paying customer that something is exclusive to them and then some years later give it to everyone. It's not. Years later, people will forget this event even existed and SE will still do what SE does whether you drop your sub fee over this or not.And you may think, "Oh it not going to break the bank." and this one won't, but it just another thing that being pile on top of what already wrong/bad with this game and SE as company. Ok, so what your sitting here trying to tell me is that the players of 1.0 had nothing to do with the game continuing on and we were only beta testers? ok.... lol
Hate to break this to you, but SE would've never looked at the game twice if nobody was playing it. Only reason Yoshi-P got singed on to remake the game was because of us who stayed.
But believe whatever you like cookie.

Just wondering what does that have to do with anything? Do 1.0 players want a cookie for sticking with a broken game? What is the relevance of being a 1.0 player in patch 4.0 and beyond? I mean truth be told beta tester is generous, I would say many 1.0 players were suckers that followed brand loyalty.Ok, so what your sitting here trying to tell me is that the players of 1.0 had nothing to do with the game continuing on and we were only beta testers? ok.... lol

They lied,
When yoshida said "no housing destruction" he lied (and also, he did " a thing from the past"... i think he regrets to said such strong sentence...)
But, if SE only knows how to lie to people, what the difference between them or activision, or Electronic arts?
If you live as a paranoid people, that consider everyone will lie to you, it is your matter. Me i consider people will try to do what they say, because a world where everyone lie is a world about to die.
I prefer glorify people staying honest, and spit on others.
Also you say "Yoshida made the game profitable, not the legacy players" you are right, BUT... Could this be done without the players? Without all those legacy players, the game would have ended simply...
What does it cost to staying honest to SE, and keeping 1.0 exclusiv the tenish stuffs they have?
AND MAINLY
WHY giving this white raven things to everyone and not simply create a new item? . . Oh yes, they lie, and also SB is the expansion when they work as less as possible, so hey... to long to create a ring, earring, helm or anything else. They have already enough work to fill the cash shop.
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

To lie someone has to say something knowing it to be wrong. That "no housing destruction" line was said before housing had even been released.
I don't agree with a lot of SE's recent "policies", but I think it's unreasonable to hold them to something that, at the time it was said, was probably the truth. Things change. That and since then there were a lot of people on the forums complaining about "empty" houses and wanting them to be demolished. They added it because we demanded it.
