I don’t actually have time to be on it 24/7 waiting for an event vendor (on each of my 6 active characters either).

If there isn’t a predictable pattern to it, at very least I don’t think you need to watch multiple characters for the event spawn, unless they’re on different data centres. My characters are all on Elemental, and the event is active on all three worlds (that I’ve checked) simultaneously.
